997.2 Production End?
#2
I cannot confirm but I heard one more year. so a 2011 and 2012. If correct they would make a more serios change for 2013 which could either be a 997.3 or I would guess a 998..

That is a good bet. The 997.2 should end with the the current year model ('11) and be built last around mid-year 2011. The new 991 should be available after that as a 2012 model year. If one likes the 997.2 and not so much the long WB 991, now is the time to order.

If the new car is a success .. it will be even more expensive.
In fact .. I wonder if the MSRP of a high option 991S might cost as much as a 2007 Turbo with modest options (135K) and the next Turbo S over 200 ? (that's double the 993tt MSRP) .

It could be that the new model is the "next 996"... but I doubt it.
It think the new 911 will get bigger, smoother, more luxurious, more powerful, and much more expensive. It could be that the 997 is the simpler, hard edged, smaller car that buyers or fans wish the Porsche folks were still making. The Boxster/Cayman might take up the traditional spot of the 911.

Fahrer,
I believe Porsche learned their lesson with the actual 996 and will do their best to avoid creating another one. That said, if your prediction does hold true then the current 997 could become the "next 993". For a while there 993 owners with gently driven cars could fetch list price or more but I believe this had more to do with the fact that the 993's were the last air cooled models rather than the controversial styling of the 996.
There are some purists to this day that believe the "true 911" ended with those air cooled cars and won't own anything beyond a 993. In that same light, there will be people who won't buy the successor to the 997 (whatever it will be named) because of the longer wheelbase and Porsche's increased focus on luxury.
