I forgot to answer this question. First, a little perspective - my first 911 was an '03 C2 (996), then an '07 C2S. I had a C63 for about 26 months between the two 997's, so its not like getting out of one and into the other. Additionally, each 911 was about a 40-50 hp jump from the other, as well as increase in overall sportiness (suspension, primarily).



With all that being said...

• The 997.1 was significantly faster than the 996. The GTS feels more than 0.2 faster than the 997.1, but its really hard to say for sure. I've only let the engine run up to the mid 6-7k range, and I haven't tried any hard launches (and won't for at least a thousand miles).
• The ride in the 996 was softer than the .1, which was softer than the GTS (no sport PASM on the .1 that I recall). All three ride softer than my modified MINI Cooper S. I would guess that the GTS with sport PASM off is stiffer than the stock .1 C2S, but the GTS with sport PASM on is softer than the .1 C2S PASM on. That's going on 2 year old memory.
• The GTS is noisier inside than the .1 C2S. Not sure if its the sport PASM, the 305 tires, or something else. I don't mind the extra noise a lot, but with it I would have preferred a 100+ lb weight loss.
• .2 PCM is > .1 PCM, obviously, even though I did not opt for Bose or Nav. Real iPod integration now instead of my Denison previously, although it still sucks compared to things like Ford's SYNC.
• Fit, finish and material seem about the same as the .1, significantly better than the 996.

That's all I can think of right now. I can give a better impression once the "break in" period is over and I can put it on a track. It does seem to be responding well to the exercise and the engine feels more "broken in" than my .1 did at delivery, but that was almost 4.5 years ago so take that with a grain of salt. If you think of specific questions, let me know.

 

Quick side question...

Got a GTs coming in March(ish). What car seats (I know they are sunshine kids something) are those and how do they fit?

We got the Radian 80SL by Sunshine Kids. While I was initially excited as they seemed to be the best fit (narrow base), I have run into some issues.

• First, the seat wells don't seem to be even. The passenger side seat doesn't fit like the driver side seat, no matter what I do. I read somewhere from a C4S owner that seats that supposedly fit a C2 did not fit his car - the GTS has the C4 shell and that could be the problem.
• Two, because there is no LATCH, you have to tether the seat with the seat belt. In the 911, the location where you insert the buckle is further forward in the car than the seat belt base, causing the belt to be diagonal when tight. This tends to rotate the seats towards the outside. I solved this by going through the frame and then around the front of the outer cusion before inserting the buckle.
• No matter what I do, the base has a good bit of "movement". Its tight near the buckle and tight at the top tether, so I'm 100% certain it is safe, but I don't like that much "play" in the seats. I keep reminding myself I rode in a back seat of a less safe car without seatbelts as a kid, but I'm fanatical about safety for my own.
• Installing ANY car seat in the rear is a multiple swear word job for someone 6'1" and 230 lbs. Having to fight to get the &^%$@ seat backs out, only to have to put them back in because the child seat fits better with them is frustrating (installing is tougher than removing).

I would recommend as much testing as you can do at the baby store, but you won't know what fits best until you start yanking parts out, trying to tighten the seat belt & top tether, etc. I would also recommend liberal amounts of alcohol and some place away from the kids to do the install.

Excuse my ignorance guys, but does the GTS have suspension differences compared to a standard 997.2 C2S? i.e. is the ride quality the same?

 

I believe there are no suspension differences over a 997.2 S

"For the suspension, all springs have been altered to more rigid from the C2S, and the hollow rear anti-sway (or stabilizer) bar is an appreciated bit larger in diameter." - Winding road article.

 

According to the parts catalog, it looks like the GTS comes with the Sport Suspension (030) as standard equipment.
