for winter use only if you intend to keep a separate set - get 8"f 10"r in 18" with dedicated snow tires like PA2 or any other snow tires in 235/265 sizes.
if you want to get all-seasons lie conti extremecontact dsw - well, you may get other options, it all depends of your intentions. i just put contis on my lexus and those tires handle very well on snow. but i am not sure if I would want to drive p-car on them in summer.

Even at low temps, below 40 F, you need a softer performance winter tire. Summer performance will be no good.

If you have a C4 you should drive it all year, that's half the fun.

Thanks. Not sure what ( 8"f 10"r in 18") is?
Also is there much of a differance between a Performance winter tire vs Performace snow tire ?

standard wheels in 18" diameter - 8" wide fronts, 10" wide rears.
it you go to tireracj and select C2 or C2S car it should be a default option showing for 18" rims sizes. snow tires do not benefit from extra width so 235/265 will do fine.

if you want (for some unknown reasons) an all-season set - you can get 8.5"f 11"r rims in 18" or 19" so you can put 245f/305r tires on them.
245f/305r = 245/40r18 fronts, 305/35r18 rears.

He should select C4 or C4S, as the offset of the rear wheels is different the the C2 or C2S

Not a problem, it would suck if the OP took your advice and ordered the wrong wheels.

If there are actually two different categories (winter and snow) they would be defined by the type of tread. A winter tire would be very similar to a summer tire just with softer winter compound to handle the colder temps. A snow tire would have a very different tread style. It would be much beefier and have lots of siping for better cold/wet/snow grip.

Now with that said, I don’t think there is a winter tire that is not a snow tire. It is going to come down to how much you want to spend and if/how often you plan to drive the C4 in the cold/rain/snow. Just the tires for stock sizes will run you about $1300. Even a cheap set of rims will cost you another $1200. If you will never drive it in the cold/rain/snow why bother. If you plan to drive it a decent amount and have a good shot of being in the rain/snow/ice then it is a must.

This is your other option. A really good set of all season will be able to get you around if you plan to do very minimal amounts of cold weather driving. I will caution, the Conti Extreme Contact are not even close to as good as a snow tire if you are actually planning to drive in the snow. More on that if anyone cares...

I actually mounted the Conti's onn my 19" Carrera Sport rims. They are not bad for an "All Season" tire. To be clear, I do not drive my C2 when it is snowing (which has happened far to often in the New York this winter) or when the roads have just recently been plowed. I do drive it when it is cold out and there are remnants of snow on the road.

"Search" is your friend.
There is enough good info posted on this topic that it would take a week to get through.
Just FYI, if you order winter wheels be certain that they understand you have the 'widebody'. Offsets are (I believe) 57 for the front and 51 for the rear - assuming you have 8" fronts and 11" rears. That's the Porsche recommendation.
Damon at Tire Rack knows the drill. Very dependable.

With all of the snow we have had this year in the Northeast (one storm a week since Christmas) I am thinking of switching to Polaris. LOL
