Is Newport beach dealer any good?

Your mileage may vary, but I would not use that dealership for anything.
They have always been less than helpful and more than eager to take as much of your money as they can get away with.
I'm assuming your car is new/still under warranty, so you may not have much of a choice,
15 miles to the north is Circle Porsche in Long Beach.
If you want to use an indy, let me know. I know several in the area that do excellent work.

The dealership in Newport is fine. I've had some warranty work done there recently and they were not pushy or unreasonable, did a good job and treated me well. An oil change is pretty basic service. I doubt they will try to up sell you into something you don’t need. Your decision will come down to convenience. If you’re in Newport, go to the dealer. If you’re dealer adverse and want to save a couple of bucks, go to Hergesheimer in Lake Forest. A good indy shop. Their rates are a bit better than the dealers and do really good work.

Things change....way back in the good old days the Newport dealership was Chick Iverson Porsche. One of the best dealerships in the country. They were one of the first shops to "hot rod" 911s, even 356s. Every weekend the place would be packed with people checking out the cars.

Negative press is usually based in truth. Like I said earlier, your mileage may vary. You had one positive experience, weighed against many less positive ones.
The Newport dealership is known throughout the region, by customers and by mechanics (both independent and more 'specialized' racing shops) for having a... erm... attitude. An attitude which is not customer-centric, nor customer focused. Never have I felt like they wanted to take care of me.
I'm on my 4th 911 and I avoid them like the plague.
One of my other cars was a Mini. I got it service by Crevier in Santa Ana.
You want to talk about a contrast!!! For a $22K used car, they always made me feel like royalty. If I didn't know any better, I'd think I was driving a Rolls.
That's the kind of service we should expect from a major Porsche dealer. Instead we are treated like thyey are doing us a favor by selling us overpriced mediocre service...

It's funny, two of the dealerships in Newport Beach (other being Fletcher Jones) all gave me attitudes as if I am begging them to work on my car. Fletcher Jones was even worse, and this is from a brand that supposedly pride themselves in product and service quality. Needless to say they will not get any of my business anymore.
alexstjo: Call Walters and mention you are with PCA Orange Coast Region, and you are interested in the oil change special. Not sure if it expired this year but doesn't hurt to ask.

8qt of new oil costs about $65, filter is, ok, $20, so do your math how much to unscrew one nut should cost.

I recently had a great experience there after a very bad one many years ago. I would recommend them now for both sales and service now. I just bought a '07 CPO C4S from them a few weeks back and I think both sales and service there has tremendously improved in the last recession. Ask for Denis in service as my experience with him has always been great! For sales talk to Dan (the Sales Manager) or Twee for a sales person. Good luck!
