David4315 is infamous around these parts
Again don't mean to malign PDK. I know it shifts faster than any human can with a manual. I just a purist. I'll happily trade a slightly faster 0-60 time for feeling more connected to the car. This is a piece of technology I'll leave in the parts bin.

The PDK mates with the boost to get the most efficiency out of the Hp and between the two cars it is more car. Plus the 991 will arrive next year and the turbo will hold value as it won't change until 2014 . If you really wanted to save money and have ample Hp why not just get a C2S ? It's lighter than both cars and quite nimble.

I just feel taht the Turbo S is greatness .It is the ultimate street cruizing machine giving luxury , power , handling, and that's what makes it Porsches flagship.

Do you need this ?
Nope. In fact all it might take is the first ding at a supermarket in any of these cars to question why you bought the top tier .

The answer is simple though --
the reason I buy it is because on the rare day when the sun is shining and the conditions are ideal for driving .. i feel like a kid again and the car is the cherished toy.
^ agree with above

I really think the Turbo is only good with PDK...I hate turbo-lag (every turbo has it, though these days it is reduced) with 6MT and turbo...with PDK its a pseudo-automanual, you don't perceive it as much.

Plus Turbo is $$ for a 911. If its in the budget, go for it! And if you feel you need the down low torque of a V-10 or V-12 engine. You're going from something like 312ish pound feet of ttorque to 520ish or whatever....thats the perception of speed the turbo gives you...it'll be like driving a v-12 engine.

Again your call, test drive on...think about value too...it is a 911!

Edit: the Other thing I forget is that with 6MT and AWD...the cars tend to bog off the line as power delivery to the four wheels is not as seamless and as instantaneous as 2 wheel drive cars -- so frustrating!!! Again with PDK, this is a complete non-issue.

If the 911 is going to be PDK, def consider the turbo!

Made up my mind, bought the right car!

Figured it all out! Bought a 2011 Carrera 4S that had every single thing I wanted and will pocket the money vs the Turbo for a Jeep to drive during bad weather! If I like the Porsche enough, I may opt for the Turbo in a couple years when I'm ready for something new!
SOOOO HAPPY RIGHT NOW, lol!

I understand both sides of the manual/PDK thing, but I personally hate driving a manual - drove both the manual and the PDK and it wasn't even a decision for me, hands down I went PDK. To each his own.

That sounds like a nice combination of cars. It's nice to have alternate such as an SUV for the really bad weather.

Arrow The...

...4S is very nice, but I think that the turbos have a 993 case.

That case (complete with a true dry sump) is almost bulletproof.

Congrats on the 4S acquisition !

The argument is an easy one. If you're spending $120K or $170K, you get to pick what you want. There are no wrong options. My 4S was a manual, my Turbo S a PDK. I'm a purist, too... Pure speed.
