First Porsche purchase

Hello all,

I am buying my first Porsche and want to know what I should be looking out for. I test drove and am considering buying a 2006 Carerra S with 33k miles. This will also be a DD for me. Thank you in advance for all the advice!

Ryan

I feel so sorry for you that you've gotta pay the 9% in sales taxes where you live

good luck with whatever you purchase - I know you'll enjoy it

This is a very popular question, I suggest a search. Pay the extra and get the car PPI'ed. Everything checks out fine, you should be fine. Porsche are ever day supercars.

I shall search. I have a car identified at a non-porsche dealer already. I am just deciding if I can tolerate it as a DD. I have not had a sports car in a couple of years and have become used to my cushy Lexus. The car is a 2006 Carerra S with H&R springs and large wheels so it is a little rough on the ride. I just wanted to know if there are any known issues with the model year that I should be aware.

I don't know that there's really any 'known issues' to look for on an '06 997S. I bought an '05 997S a couple of years ago and haven't had any mechanical issues. As for the small things, I've had issues with the cupholder trim piece staying snapped into place, the trunk light sometimes doesn't work (faulty switch in latch), and the interior carpeting started coming un-glued by the door sill. I also had to replace all the ignition coils at about 5 years old which is pretty normal from what I hear; they start to crack over time. With an '06, yours would be due soon. I'd also make sure the 4-year major service has been done - could save you over $1k.

really don't want to relate as it's not applicable here - but - DO have a reliable PPI done before purchase - no matter from whom you purchase..
