Ordering a 991?
#16
no, my 997 is still a new car! I still enjoy it greatly! I kept my E46 M3 long after the new M3 came out and was glad that I did. In the first year, they improved the iDrive substantially, and tweaked lots of other things.
I imagine the 991 will get some small tweaks too. Even if they are just CPU updates and rattle-hunts.
I can also imagine my dealer trying to build up the 'greatness' of the 991 and remind me how worthless my 997 is when it comes to bargaining!
If I am in for the 991, it will be when my 997 is 5 years old.......

Sometimes I see a panamera at just the correct angle (just off a bit from head on) and swear it's the new 991 on the road already.
If I do get a 991, I won't custom order - and it would be a used one after someone jumped from it after 6-12 months.

I just hope they make it good looking...wider with presence like the R8....911 is a great car, but for 100 K it should look the part. Nothing wrong with the frog toad look...but a sleek sexy 911 would be nice (996 looked sweet from the front).
I doubt it'll happen though.
911 has it all except for the visual excitement. I remember seeing a 911 in the showroom...and as amazing as they are to drive, there really is no substitute at that price point -- either you go 911 or move up to Ferrari -- the white 911 cab looked ugly from all angles :|
Didn't help that there was an R8 next to it....but the R8 is an audi, and while it looked cool...just doens't seem like a car you'd be excited to drive 8 years down the road, whereas with the 911 -- you're excited to drive her forever.
Please Porsche make the 911 good looking so I can buy one...I cannot buy the current look!!!! But the car is amazing, no substitute at this price point.

You didn't ... I have always enjoyed your responses and professionalism on this board. Not sure what the negative comment was for.

it got to be a lot of improvements in 991 to make this switch worth the money for me... like a 480hp engine with sport PDK.
to spend $130K+ is still a big decision. I would much prefer just to put that new 991 DFI motor into my current tub for $50K or so if they would be able to do that and keep my current M96 as a spare engine.

Our C2/C2S is more than enough car for most people to have fun on the street. I don't think giving me 50 more hp for my street driving 911 will change my driving habit or enhance my driving pleasure at all.
For sedans and SUVs, I've actually been looking at ones with smaller rather than bigger displacement engines. I must be getting old...

After looking at the pictures, I seen no reason anyone would buy a 991 if they already had a 997.2S with DP tranny. Yes it have more HP but the design is typical evolutionary Porsche. A few well thought out mods and you'll get close to the 991HP for a lot less money. If you had an older 997.1 or 996 a 991 might be of interest. Given the hefty price increase I'll bet most people on this board will wait for a lightly used CPO car.

It depends on the direction Porsche is going to. They talk about Chinese or American factories, 250 000 cars/year and so on. Hard to believe there won't be a quality drop.
All that keeping the prices at a premium? Tough to deal with. Perhaps do as I did w/ my current 997.2, buy it one year old w/ low miles (4k), 24k less than MSRP at 1.9%... It's difficult but long time searching and watching the market made it possible.
Or even say goodbye to P-cars (my 955 is almost gone towards a X5 V8) and try Maserati GranSport...
