Ordering a 991?
#2
Every year there are several customers who like to custom order their Porsches. Be it Cayennes, 911s or any model. So I don't see the point in your question. For the 991, it is too early in the game to tell ...

let's break it down, the op is probably trying to gauge how excited the current 997 owners are about the 991, and if any have already decided they are going to go for it. pretty interesting question, actually.

Oh ... and after 1200 or so posts, starting several threads that many 6speeders have enjoyed and thanked me through PMs after it helped in their custom ordering process (like the 2011 Cayenne), I now have the honor of being credited with the worst response ever.It was probably overdue.

That's what my dealer is telling me. They'll come here as '13's, not '12's.

I think that Porsche marketing still does a great job but Porsche sales has been too "cute" for too long and gets worse with each passing year. In the Summer of 09 I ordered a 2010 and got an October build date. Sometime in late Sept. (09) I got a call that 2 of the options I wanted were not available and it would be built in December, plus they wanted my trade right now (!) or the agreed trade $$ would have to change. I decline, tell them I'll get rid of it when the time comes and we'll go with the cash price. Mid November, same phone call again - now a January build, meaning a late March 2010 delivery if I'm lucky,
So, thinking that MY2011 might bring the 991, I say 'no thanks, give me my 2 grand deposit back - and I'll keep driving my modded 06 "clunker"'. If Porsche had been upfront with real info on the 991, tentative pricing, and a real time model introduction date - as every other manufacturer does - I would now be driving a new 2010 or 11. As it stands today there is a good chance that if I still want to upgrade it will be to a used one and Porsche loses a sale. Individually this is of no importance, but I talk with more than a few club members ( and several dealers' sales people) who think the same way.

I won't .
I just don't see the sense to ordeing the car for so many reasons , Usually the initial cars get minor revisions . Add to this that even if one fell in love with the new car on day one of the launch he can still buy a car if he calls enough dealerships . Heck .. even a more rare car like a Gt3RS can be bought on the spot .
I can remember days when cars were called "limited production" .
Haha ..yeah right ...
(like the M3 or the 07 997 Turbo and then a few years later there are thousands of them )
Yanno what ... the day I am ready to buy a car I'll drive up with my car's title and a check and if no one can sell me a car I'll just have to suffer (j/k) with the cars I already have and the savings in my pocket.
