Fister Mod - Question

Fister Mod - Question
So, I did the Fister mod with 2" pipes on my 997.1. I think the sound is fabulous, but my wife likes the (more toned down) sound of my previous 996 with the Gundo hack.
Has anybody done a 1 1/2 in pipe and 2" pipe? Sound difference? How does it compare to the Gundo on the 996?
I PM'd Fister D but did not get a response (Probably too busy) as he has modified both, but have not heard from him as yet.
Any thoughts from anyone who has heard different mods? I would love some more input!

He did his standard 1.5" pipes for my 997.1 and I like the sound. I haven't heard any other Gundo / pfister cars, personally, let alone 2" versions or 996s
Sorry I couldn't be more help

As far as I know, they are the same.
Gundo is the user name of the guy that came up with it. He described it, with the expectation (again AFAIK) that people would work with a local muffler shop to have the work done.
Fister is a guy in Cali who has a shop, and he stocks 996 and 997 mufflers for this. If you go through him, he'll send you modified mufflers (basically the Gundo hack), and then you take those to a local shop and have them swapped with your OEM set (or DIY). Then, send him back your stock set, unless you want to pay extra and keep them.
In my research, and IIRC, Gundo recommended 2" pipes, and most 'Gundo" hackers go that route.
Fister, again IIRC, recommends 1.5", but would do 2" if you request it.
Hope that helps!

Slightly O/T...
I previously discussed with Fister about swapping out the mufflers on my '09 Carrera S with a set of their modified mufflers. At the time they didn't have any modified '09 model mufflers on hand to do the swap so I'd have to send my mufflers to them to have the mod done. The individual I was talking to stated that although they had yet to do any of the new ('09-'10) mufflers he felt that the change in tone/sound would be much less than they had experienced with earlier style exhaust systems, because the new system's center muffler would effectively cancel out any noticable changes. I was told that the only way to gain any sound or tone enhancement with the Fister modified mufflers on an '09 or newer Porsche 997 was to add a set of Sharkworks or AWE crossover pipes to eliminate the center muffler. I've done that but I'm still running the stock primary mufflers.

Thanks, Jack, I might wait until I hear from a few more people prior to making or buying a new set - I might try 1 1/2 inch pipes.

Doesn't Fister use 1.75" tubing by default? Following are the differences between the typical gundo hack the fister mod:
SS tubes
SS weld
Mandrel bent tubes
Longer length tubes
Welded right next to cans
Pipes are vertical when installed
Quality welding
Media blasted finish

I asked a garage to do a 1.5" pipe and they recommended a 2" pipe as apparently most start out at 1.5" and find it is not enough then go for the bigger one.
I found that the 2" on my 98 996 was extremely loud, embarassingly so in fact. It sounded good though when you floored it where the note would change but at low revs it sounded embarassing and it would also drone excessively on the motorway which completely did my head in. I read since on a forum that on a 996.1 you should fit a smaller pipe tan on a 996.2 for the same effect - oh well!
The garage then tried to fit mufflers as they couldnt make the pipe smaller now the work was done but then it sounded like the car was farting and blowing.
Eventually I got sick of the messing around and just stuck a Dansk sport exhaust on it. It doesn't sound as good as the 2" did during its better moments however it also didn't make it sound totally embarassing for the rest of the time - that plus I think it will be more durable than modified stock cans in the long run.

I have 1.75" in pipe on my Fister mod for my 997.2. I also have the Sharkwerks primary muffler bypass pipes. I think the two in tandem sound great.
I asked Darin what was the best way to go, and he strongly encouraged me to choose the 1.75" pipe.
