Question I miss my shift light

My 06 STi had stock shift light and it also made a beep sound according to your own rpm setting.

Now that I am driving my 06 C4S, I really miss my shift light. Anyone know or have something setup on their P-Car?

Red face

No.... just try to have some peace in mind especially now that my rev limiter doesn't kick in until 7700rpm after the ECU Reflash.

It also help me focus on the road better instead of check if from time to time if I am pushing too far.

Or maybe it's just another fun item I like to have.....

I agree. I hit the rev limiter once in a while because the engine doesn't really give you much feedback above 6k RPM.

I looked into this a bit. There are aftermarket shift light kits that read the OBD2 port. Theoretically you can hook them right up, and they should work.

I haven't done it, because A) they seem really overpriced, like a few hundred dollars, and B) it would not look factory, they are generally some big thing you would have to stick on the dash.

IMO the ideal thing would be an exhaust valve that opens above 6.5k RPM so you get a big bark from the exhaust that tells you to shift.

I think you shift when the engine shuts down: somewhere after 7200 rpm.

I know what he is talking about as I had an 07 STi. It was a nice feature. You could make it blink and beep, or just blink.

Isn't that why the tachometer on the race car variants have a rotatable meter, so you can position the tachometer so your shift points are indicated by the tach pointing straight up. You still have to watch it in your peripheral though.

race cars use those blinking indicators as driver does not look at anything in a dashboard nor he can hear anything surrounded by cars with open pipes so red blinking dot is a pretty good thing for your peripheral vision.

for a street car such a device has no functional reason whatsoever as you can see tachometer and hear your engine just fine.

You could always trade up for a Cup car which have them but I hear they're a bit harsh for daily driving routines......just sayin'.....

Wants, needs, I dont know. Living in Atlanta I can certainly see the benefit of having a shift light.

GT3's have them but they are useless as they come on a split second before redline.
