Looking for user feedback on SC or Turbo on a 997.1 S
I've had my 2006 997.1 C2S cab for 7 months now and I am starting to get the itch for more power (especially coming off a chipped 996 TT X50).
I would like some user feedback from 997 owners who have either installed the TPC racing turbo kit or the VF Engineering supercharger kit.
What has been your user experience?
How much more power did it make?
How has the reliability / drivability been?
Any changes in the car's behavior?
How much did you pay for the hardware?
How much did you pay for the install?
Why did you choose the FI option you selected over the other one?
Thank you for your time to provide the feedback.

As well as justatoy's post. Both have extensive experiences in both installation and long term driving with the S/C.
In my experience thus far, installation of the VF-E S/C is more involved than the TPC Turbo (based on how the TPC Turbo Kit is installed). It's not for the faint of heart, but if you study the installation instructions and look at Cattman's + Justatoy's documentations, it's doable. Installation time is ~ 15-20 hrs based on VF-E's estimate. I took longer of course as it was my first time. A lift defintely made the process more "enjoyable" and a helping hand from a Porsche mechanic friend also made it more "fun".
At one point, I was contemplating about letting the dealer do the installation. Cost would have been ~$2000 for labor.
Cost of the S/C is much more affordable now than ever. Check with Dan from Vivid Racing (sponsor).
As far as driveability, it behaves just like a normal S when driven normally, but when you get on the pedal, it wakes up! The power delivery is very linear and pulls all the way to redline with ease. Where as before, the power seems to die off at 6000 rpm, it now pulls eagerly to the rev limiter w/o hesitation. In my experience, power is noticeable from 2800-3000 rpm and another bump @ 6000 rpm to redline.
I had 2 Porsche mechanics test drove the car after my installation to get a 2nd opinion on the power, and they both said that it's within stock 996 TT for sure. The power delivery is like having a bigger displacement engine in your car. It's not turbo rush, but a consistent and noticeable push in your back as the revs climb. It's deceptively fast, IMO.
I chose FI as it's the only option that really produces the kind of power that is very noticeable for the money, IMO. Plus, VF-E has a special on their kit that makes it a more affordable option when compared to N/A power mods.

If search bar isn't your here's one
https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...ry-soon-p.html
Otherwise make it your friend and search for marathonbob
What has been your user experience?
Nothing but positive comments on my TPC turbo
How much more power did it make?
455awhp and 390lb/tq, so a lot more than factory
How has the reliability / drivability been?
Don't know yet, so far it's been very reliable, I've had the car since Oct.
Any changes in the car's behavior?
Don't know about the behavior of the car, mine has been naughty. You can't help but step on it to feel the rush.
How much did you pay for the hardware?
The turbo is about ~10K, look at TPCracing.com for price, better yet call them and say you are from 6speedonline, they might give you a discount.
How much did you pay for the install?
About 3K, all this info can be found on my link above.
Why did you choose the FI option you selected over the other one?
I didn't look for a turbo, it just happened that way. I was looking for a low mileage C2S and happened to find this one. I did quite a bit of reading and many believe the turbo system is a bit better than the SC one.

Thank you all for your feedback. It helps a lot.
I had done some searches, but I had not come across a thread where active users of both SC and Turbo upgrades were asked these questions.
I am tempted by the TPC solution, but with rebates available on the VF SC, they are within spitting distance of each other in terms of pricing etc.
So getting actual user opinions on their system of choice is helpful.
Thanks agaion and please keep them coming.

We are working very hard to make Eric's car perform flawlessly. He just had it out at a local track day 2 weekends ago where he and the his instructors were amazed at the power it made and its drivability. We have a few more tweaks which we will be performing this week.
His car is one of 3 2005s we have done. It is the only which experienced an issue. Just because i dont update that thread every other day doesnt mean we are doing nothing regarding the issue.
All of the other cars are making fantastic reliable horsepower.
Happy to answer any questions you may have.

MarathonBob checking in here. I've got a 2006 C4 (non S) and have had the TPC turbo for 1 year+. I've posted a bunch of times so you can readily find that. All my experiences have been quite positive with TPC. I looked at the SC option and was close to pulling the trigger on that a year before selecting TPC. I couldn't find any Boston area installers and the the NY installer I was talking to received some horrendous reviews on this and other forums. I suspect that's related to their mechanical abilities, not the SC itself, but it was enough to scare me away. Clearly Stacy and Cattman have been happy with their SC.
As for your questions:
What has been your user experience? Very good!
How much more power did it make? OMG! So much more that you think you're strapped to a missile. It's online, but my recollection was that it was about 435HP at the wheel / or ~ 500 at the engine.
How has the reliability / drivability been? So far, it's been completely reliable. The turbo is tame at idle, upto about 2500 RPMs and that you feel like you just lit a rocket on the back of the car. I especially like the exhaust system which has a much stronger but not objectionable bass sound at idle and above 3000 RPM it sounds like an F18 on an attack run. Very cool.
Any changes in the car's behavior?
I also added the swaybars and coilovers at the same time so I can't speak 100% to the turbo itself. Bottom line, I love the car. I have as much fun thinking about the car as I do driving it! It really brings a mischievous smile to your face when you drive it.
How much did you pay for the hardware? Millions, but your price may be lower.
How much did you pay for the install? I negotiated that with the install.
Why did you choose the FI option you selected over the other one? I chose the turbo because of the sketchy reputation of the NY based SC installer. I think both systems are good but with a slightly different performance profile. The SC is closer to "always on" while the turbo isn't doing much when you're driving around town at lower RPMs. But when you get on the pedal, it's a monster.
Overall I'm happy.
