I would use P21S, Sonus or products of that level of quality. For wax, I like Klasse. The link above has a lot of information I found helpful.

I use Zaino Bros products (as do a bunch of the Bimmer 8 series forum group). Excellent product & it leaves no white residue - good on chrome and wheels too - give 'em a read..: http://www.zainostore.com/ (not associated, just a user of their stuff)

+1.

I used Meguiar's wax, the one w/ carnauba and "polymers," on my new-to-me Atlas Grey 997 this past weekend and it worked great.

Hope I don't sound like an informercial, but the deep shine and feel (glassy) are great and it took out some faint swirl marks/scratches. Easy to apply and can't beat the price.

You need to start looking at high end products like Sonax, Menzerna, Einszett, P21S, Griot's garage and swissvax. They all carry the whole spectrum of products but each one of us have our favorites. For eg: I love Sonax leather foam, Menzerna polish (best in class), Einszett spray wax, Griot's speed shine, Swissvax for waxes, Rejex for wheel wax, Nanoskin for sealant and P21S wheel cleaner gel.

You need a high quality polisher. You may also need to polish prior to waxing. Start with a mild polish and see if it gets rid of all the swirls. If not, go to the next level, but finish with the mild prior to waxing. I have the Griots polisher, which is made by Makita. Lots of torque and won't burn paint. I use it to lay down both polish and wax, but remove each by hand using special cloths. Polish is removed right away while wax has to set up first before removal.
