Rotor is infamous around these parts
I love the smell of JP8 in the morning.........however, my car has a burnt rubber smell after a drive also. Sounds like it's business as usual.

A trusted Porsche mechanic said its brake dust on the mufflers. Makes sense given the amount of brake dust that is on the rear bumper. If it can accumulate on the rear bumper, it is also accumulating on the mufflers. Its a combination of having soft pads for better grip and the mufflers being immediately adjacent to the wheel well. Not something that is common in most cars.

My 99 smelled like that always after a hard drive after 12 years. I learned to ignor it and considered it normal which it is.

Are you guys all driving Automatics/PDK's? Because I don't recall any such smell. The only funky smell I've had was burnt clutch But that wasn't Porsche's fault. Replaced and back to normal.

Just hit 50K, was starting to go, lots of runs at the track and such. You can smell a burnt clutch.

Not just a PDK thing. My '11 GTS 6spd has that smell after some fun driving...and of course the wife complains about it and tells me it shouldn't smell that way (like it's burning oil). I just think it's her way of getting it to the shop so that she can push to have me get rid of it...

Glad to know it's probably just the cosmoline or exhaust burning off other materials.

Yup, same thing here. My C4S has 6400 miles. Worse with spirited driving. Honestly, now that I know what it is I find it more of a character trait. Kind of like the old Harley's leaking a very small amount of oil. The old bikers would say the HD was just marking its territory lol.

Thank goodness. I thought one of my accessories was failing, and causing my drive belt to wear. lulz.

Yea, who are we kidding. We all drop the hammer at least once on every drive. Why else would you be driving a P-car!

+1. I have 27k on my 07 C4S and I get a smell after hard driving. The harder you work the engine...the hotter it gets, therefore anything coming in contact with the hot exhaust...i.e. rubber, brake dust or just crap from the road...will burn. The coating on the underside I believe will last for 30k or so. It's the sweet smell if a P car.
