targa opinions/price check

Still patiently hunting for another 997.2

Test drove an 09 PDK Targa w/ 22k mi, CPO dealer car. Orig 121k MSRP-decent options. Lately, I hadn't much given the targa any consideration but really like that full glass roof. One thing I dont like about the coupe is the solid roof. My current DD has glass & I like the light without the noise @ times. And when open the Targa is huge, almost as nice a feel as the cab I had.

Dealer is asking 89k, I offered 80k CPO- Dealer stood @ 86k or 84k no cpo.
I walked.
They're acting like this is a valuable, rare bird. I know they are less common than coupes or cabs (only 6 997.2 CPO on the P-site) but I think that could be a negative later when its time to trade or sell. This would probably be a stepstone until 991 or a cpo GTS next year.

Targa owners, any regrets or issues? Anyone track theirs, as I would on occasion.
Hey Porsche, since your making 199 different models, why not throw us a GTS Targa

Does seem slightly high given 22k miles.

Not sure about pricing in the US but honestly no regrets here on a Targa - just make sure to lube the roof, especially for cold days so it does no creek. Wish I just had the sports exhaust and thats about it - will do maybe next year depending on how 991 turns out and if I keep this.

Its the best of all worlds - looking forward to tracking it sometime soon.

Here is an interesting blog review on the Targa on the track. That extra 176 lbs all on the top of the car couldn't help in the turns.

No kidding. I guess I could do this http://gallery.me.com/gpatterson?vie...&bgcolor=black to simulate having a targa!

I bought my 09 Targa last Jan. I count'nt be happier ! I searched long and hard to find the exactly optioned Targa I wanted. Original sticker was 127k.( as I mentioned it's fully loaded). paid $74k with 16k miles on it. Not CPO, however dealer had the 20k service done as well as new tires. I never plan to track the car so no worries about the extra weight. The Targa is still quiet rare among Porsche. Be prepared to get a lot of stares! Good luck.

I test drove a Targa before getting a Turbo and almost went for the Targa. I also loved the glass roof and the cabriolet like feeling when opened. I ultimately decided for the Turbo because of the power rush you get when you press the gas pedal. I love the Targa and if you go for the 4s you will not regret it. I'd say go for it!!

The weight isn't as big an issue as some people think. And I doubt the "extra weight" is all in the glass top. I don't have the numbers in front of me, but if the quoted extra weight is in comparison to a C2S coupe, then a good part of it is from the AWD. The heaviest car is the C4S cab. I loved my Targa and autocrossed it a couple of times. If you want one, don't be sidetracked by all the theoretical analysis of the weight issue. The car is still more capable than you likely are. Good luck.

To the OP, if it has all the bells / whistles you were looking for, then it's probably the one for you.

Some bucks one way or the other shouldn't be such a big deal. After all, life is way too short!

Good luck and post some pics once the deal's done.

I found a total of 4 - 2009 Targas for sale nationwide with the same 4 cars listed on Cars.com and Autotrader. All were listed at $ 89 K or above. Didn't check mileage or options but I suspect you have already done the same search. With regards to their rarity I would say a total of 4 cars on a nationwide search might support that fact that they are in fact somewhat rare. By comparison, there are no fewer than 8777 used Fords trucks for sale within a 100 radius of my zip code, suggesting the opposite. I tend to agree with henrysko on this one.

I have had my 2008 Targa 4S for six months and I love it. It has sport exhaust, full leather (red/black), every option available, I got it with 6K miles on her. I love the sun, so the Targa was the best of both worlds for me. I live in Texas so I havent seen another Targa 4S on the road yet. I too get lots of positive comments from people at red lights and parking lots. Tons of Turbos and C2S's in Texas, so the Targa is a cool change of pace. I love the Turbo (2005+) and would love to join the crowd of them here in Texas someday. The dealership is on the lookout for a Turbo to swap me into. They said the Targa would sell fast for them here because its rare in this area.

I might actually do the opposite turn in my 07 turbo for an 09 targa.
