Ok, I'm out. The 911 is staying in the garage.

This is a great idea. i do have a neighbor who kept a BMW 6 series in great shape for many years . He barely drove it though and the car cover prsented a new set of issues . One must be sure to keep the license tag visible or the car gets a citation . Plus placing and removing the cover takes time and a daily driver is usually a car that's more on the go .

You're so on with this comment, I just purchased a 2006 997.1 and the old owner has always kept the car in his garage and I couldn't imagine a nicer car.

Simply put, the sun, rain combined with winds will most definitely affect the well being of all our P-Cars; that is a definite conclusion.

Surrounded by engineers and environmental specialist I can only confirm worst case scenarios when it comes to "outside" garages...

Larry, interesting comment about the Panamera vs the Cayenne. I was looking at a Panamera to replace the Cayenne since I will closing down my company this year and really do not need the SUV anymore. Found a really nice Panamera Turbo that I liked, but the thought of leaving it outside made me balk. Could leave a new Cayenne outside, but not sure I could do the Pana. No room to expand the garage and ceiling height is too low for a lift.

The Cayenne is one of the best SUV's made but I just don't see myself as an SUV person . They've been out for many years and I have never bought an SUV .

I have also never bought a large luxury car and always wanted to . The problem with the Pnamera is that to buy one and park it outside is tough. Also , the more i think about it .. the more i want the Turbo . I looked at inventories and a Panamera Turbo can range from 147K all the way up to 190K. That is a huge price gap and a lot of the cars lack some options which i find desireable (like PTV).

The Panamera Turbo S is really the way to go and there's no way I'd park it outside . I also don';t want to serll any of my current porsches so it's the M3 or bust and looks like a combination of the price , parking outside, and the overall driving conditions of this region .. stalemate the decision .

My neighbor has always parked his silver 08C2S outdoors (about 2-3 years). It looks as good as my car that has been in a garage most of its life. After he gets it detailed it really looks great.

Depends on long term usage

If you keep the P for life (as I'm hoping to do)..keep it inside.

If you have a lease, I don't think it matters.

My '06 paint looks and feels the same as the day I bot it. I don't think that would be the case if I left it outside..even in CA. The leather dash also wont withstand day after day beating from the sun/heat either..

My P-Car always stays in the garage and it's a good thing. We've always had 4 vehcles and 2 garage bays, 1 for me and 1 for wifey. We've got a nice pad to park the other 2 cars on (1 is a dog-mobile SUV, the other is my BMW 550i. The Bimmer now resides outside w/an Evo 4 cover when it's not being driven daily.

Prior to the P, I had a 350Z and I'd rotate that and the 550i in the garage each week and drive that one to work. When the P replaced the Z, it got a permanent home inside.

Now, good thing because just last week, we had a once in 20 year hail storm come thru w/that line of storms that dropped baseball, yes baseball sized hail for about 2 mins.

The Bimmer took it pretty well but does have abour 20 small dings throughout, even having the cover on it at the time. Everyone elses' rides in the neighborhood were much worse off than mine. The SUV, not a mark.

If that P-car was outside, I would have had a stroke seeing those fist sized hail stones pelting it.

I drive by a body shop on the way to work andg it looked like they were having a company picnic all week long!! Cars were lined up on every inch of property, on the parkin islands, on the grass right of way. 100s of them... Didn't see any Porsches though, thank goodness...

This is easy.
The car you care most about gets the garage.
That doesn't mean the outside rides fade into car purgatory. It just means you have to take better care of them. Both my Lexus are outside. The one I drive looks brand new and everyone who rides in it says it still smells new inside. I wash it twice a week and wax every other month.
My wife's car looks nice but not "new looking" like mine. She's on the go so much I can't care for it as well. Plus she scrapes it a lot. I am tired of repainting sections.

Tint the windows, wash and wax often, park in the shade when possible....car will be fine.

I parked mine outside and all went very well. I do live in Miami, so no winter weather, but I do have heat and humidity. It was my DD for a year.
PS: I love the Panamera!
