I've read the laments on the cost to replace ceramic rotors ($4K-$6K per?).

Is there any technical reason a 997.2 currently fitted with PCCBs could not use standard Porsche brakes/steel rotors when it came time to replacing the PCCB's? If this is a valid option, what would be the cost?

Unless you track heavily, I don't think you need to worry about it.

 

The research I have done says that the PCCB will have a considerable higher life cycle versus the S brakes to offset the higher replacement costs. They are noisier and need to be heated up to be affective hence they are really designed for track purposes in mind. I am sure you could potentially swap your PCCB system or sell it used to offset your costs for the S brakes.

 

I have PCCB's on mine and I think that PFW_06C4S is right that the rotors will last a very long time if you really take care of them. One thing the GT3 guys have said is to change the pads a little before they are needed to be changed out and go with the right pad for the application. If you track, you will need a special pad for that which is different than normal street driving. This will ensure that you have those rotors for a very long time (at least I hope that is the case!).

 

Have a look at Rennlist. Someone named Ross74 posted today asking where he could find a PCCB kit for a C2S. If you're interested in the reverse (going from PCCB to reds), maybe you two could work something out?

 

Thanks....not actually wanting to eliminate PCCBs, just trying to assess what viable alternatives would cost should I ever NEED to replace them....Plan to have the 997.2 for a long time.

 

I know people who have replaced PCCB discs with iron discs and kept the yellow calipers.

Maybe ask the same question on the GT forum as there are probably more people with PCCB's there...

I bought pre-owned 05 C2S launch edition that came with PCCBs. If I needed to replace rotors, I would replace with stock Porsche OEM Turbo iron rotors. Or I could go with 3rd party upgraded slotted iron rotors. There are options. But keep the yellow PCCB calipers! I have heard of some owners that replaced with irons and kept the carbon rotors in a box to include with the car at a later date - when being sold.
