PCM Update
Hi All - I have a 2005 997.1 CS2 and ordered the new navigation discs. My questions is do I need to do a scanner update to make the car take the new discs. Any help to shed light on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Here's the info from a Porsche Tech Bulletin.
2.3.1 Vehicles equipped with Standard Version (04035xxx) first need to be
updated to Model Level A (04202xxx) using update disc 000.043.205.46.004
which is not included in this kit. Refer to bulletin Group 9, #7/04, titled “PCM2.1 &
BOSE Amplifier Spare Parts Requirements, Part ID 9110.
Read the information in bulletin #7/04 carefully. An update of the BOSE Amplifier (if
equipped) may be necessary.
Once that work is performed, you may then proceed with steps 3, 4, 5, and 6 of
this bulletin.
I had to go through this process in my 2005 997s back in 2009. My dealer was 'kind' enough to replace my amp (w/ a later version) at N/C or I wouldn't have done it. If the Bose is at s/w level 16400 it can't used and chances are you'll 'brick' the Amp if you attempt to load the later NAV software.
Do some preliminary forum (renntech, 6 spd, etc) searches to better understand all the variables before you start.
I can provide some more details if you want.
Good Luck!

Hi AP 997S - My System Software Screen says this :
Unit : System Software
Target : 04364AD1/ 3604
Actual : 04364ADI/ 3604
Entered : Yes
Found : Yes
Does this mean doe I have "A" version or "B" version of the software.
Please let me know.

I attached the "Overview - Part numbers/software versions of the PCM 2.1". The PCM software levels you provided are not in this list. However, the "36/04" implies a CW of Week 36 Year 2004. That is a pretty early level of SW. It doesn't show up on the 'Overview' so I'm not sure what upgrade process you should use.
Porsche makes all this really confusing (IMHO) just to deter us from doing these upgrades outside of their service network. The Porsche documentation discusses both hardware and software levels for the PCM but does a terrible job differentiating between them.
My Porsche (#337) PCM was a Level 1.0 and I brought it up to Level 2.1 and then to Level 3.0.
Just out of curiosity what level is your 'Bose Amp' at.

AP 997S - I can't thank you enough for taking the time to help me with this. My SW version after the update says 3.0
Unit : PCM
Target : 05024ADI/ 0205
I will look at my amp info and let you know. What should it say for it not to be changed. Thanks again

I attached the PDF for "PCM2.1 & BOSE Amplifier Spare Parts Requirements"
"According to the "PCM2.1 and BOSE Amplifier spare parts requirements" before updating to Model Level A, you must first check to see if you have the correct Bose amplifier. It states any Bose amp having part number 997.645.333.04 or 997.645.333.05 must be replaced with 997.645.334.22 or newer".
