Tech experts please chime in on a small bearing/hub concern.

Hi guys,

Quick question are the bearings or hubs pictures here stable or do they move? Also do you guys have any idea of how I can produce a centercap for this wheel? The fact that the wheel has no centercap has caused the hub or bearing to rust and looks worse every day. Any help or thoughts on the concept is much appreciated...

I am wondering about this because I want to create some sort of cover or cap to keep it from weathering and wouldn't mind a nice floating center cap look...

The area in the center moves with the wheel, you could see this by jacking up the rear and spinning the wheel. As for coming up for a cap, I dont what you could use, someone must have a cap that would fit, surprised the wheel mfg didnt include one. Also, even on vehicles with center caps you will find rust and oxydation. Its not "air" tight and the air will carry moisture which will condense behind the cap. So dont worry too much about the rust other then the look. Good luck finding a cap.

Yes I just changed my wheels and the hub was all rusted also - and that's with my 18" stock wheels on for the past year up until now.

To get off the rust, paint it with Phosphoric Acid. Then put on a top coat of your favorite paint. Three examples of primers w/ Phosphoric Acid are: "ONE STEP RUST CONVERTER", "Rust-Oleum Rust Reformer", "STARBRITE Rust Eater & Converter".

Very good idea thank you. I think if the job is done well it could look super clean (thinking of a Matt black finish or a bright pink and match calipers with the pink) on the hubs to offset the shiny black finish of the wheels and give an effect of making the rim look even more concave.

In terms of the effects of this procedure would the phosphoric acid and the paint make the hub bulge out further? The reason why I ask is because I prefer tracking the car with the stock wheels and very wide spacers. Also which paint manufacturer do you recommend?

Thanks. I'm certain the manufacturer didn't make a cap for it. The wheels are meant to not have a cap for a racy look but I'm trying to rejigger it :/

If you do a cap do one that installs with double o rings like CCW does. The stock from Porsche does not keep water out.

the bearing is sealed, water will not hurt it.what you see is the axle shaft sticking through the hub.

And that axle shaft obviously can't be painted right since it's a moving part??
