E90 M3 or 997 C2?

hi guys,

i'm shopping around for a car... came across 2 cars that I'd like to get into... : M3 and the 997 C2.
I got an 07 C2 priced at 55K and the M3 at 51K, very close!

I like the M3 because the M3 i'm looking at has every single option possible. However, the Porsche I'm looking at is a basic C2 but looks damn good and makes a statement without trying.

Any feedback or suggestion will be much apprecated! Thanks in advance.

Im in TO as well, you can find cs2 for around 55k and that definitely will
be a better choice then M3 (I switched over from e46, after driving both e90
and cs2 the decision was very easy for me)

I did the same. Had driven M3's for 10+ years, all sorts. Test drove a couple of E90's and lots 911's and realized there really is not substitute. Haven't looked back since.

I owned a 07 997.1S and I am now into a 2011 M3 ZCP E92. If you ever need to put someone in the back seat of the car that will solve the dilemma right there for you. As the back seats in the 997 are really just for small children, I mean real small under 10 years old.

If the 997 is a non S and it is of the .1 variety then I say definitely go for the E9X M3. The engine is marvelous, the car handles quite well and up to the limit I found the M3 more stable.

If the 997 is a .2 variety then you have to ask yourself what are you going to do with the car.

I loved my 997.1S as people on this board can attest to, but I absolutely adore my M3.

My 997S..

I test drove an M3 and multiple C2Ss and C4Ss. The M3 I drove felt very lethargic and the interior did nothing for me. When I climbed into the 911 with all leather interiors I was instantly captivated. That sealed it for me. They are both great cars and you cant go wrong. It is just what you like more...Good luck and enjoy the journey.

I agree on upgrading the C2 to a C2S at that price range. Here is a good example - probably could be had at that price.

911 every time. Whether it's a C2 or C2S, you can always have a little fun with the mods and turn any C2 into much more. I'm also of the belief that you can find a C2S for similar $$$, if not a .2 C2.

And there really is something more mystical about the 911 than an M3. M3s are great, I'm not knocking them. But I've owned M cars before, and they just don't bring the passion like a Porsche does, especially a 911. The 911 is a SPORTS car that can be driven everyday. The M3 is a everyday sedan that's been upgraded to feel like a sports car.

But be careful: the Porsche can become an obsession...

I was about to order a loaded M3 Cab when my wife started screaming and yelling, so I am getting 4S Cab...

Seriously, go for the 911, unless you really have to carry passengers.

They are very different cars . If you are looking for a fun driving car with space which can be parked in a public lot and attract less attention .. the M3 offers a lot . Also my M3 that i just traded in gave me 36K of pefect relaibility miles . Outside of new tires , oil changes and routine maintenance.. the car ran flawless and it made it that much harder to trade it in . i just wanted a new car .

If you are looking for an entry level 911 then an 07 C2 is a very nice car .

Surprisingly .. my M3 that i just traded in really held its resale value better than any high end car I ever owned and all maintenance was free .

Tough call.

One more thing .. an afterthought .
It's easy for me to look at both cars because i have them both but i am thinking about something a friend said to me .

He has a 328i but wants a 997 .
I asked him if he would consider the M3 as a transitionary car .

His reply was --
" If I buy the M3 I may never buy the Porsche" .

He really wants the Porsche . I think that's what he ought to get .

To the OP, come back when you've driven them both. They are not at all alike. Had a 997S for 2 years, now getting an M3. The M3 is a better daily, quieter, calmer, but still can rip when you get on it. The 997 is an awesome car, I suspect I'll be back to Porsche in the future, maybe when my 2 kids are gone to college!
