Excessive seat wear 997.2 ventilated seats
I have a 997.2 that I bought new in July of 09. The car now has 4000 miles on it. The car is not driven in the winter, as I live in NH.
I noticed the seat is starting show what seems like excessive wear along the left outside edge of the drivers seat. I looked closely and can see the leather is cracking between the little vent holes. I have the vented power comfort seats. I am careful when I get in to not, plop into the seat.
Anyone else have this problem? I am disheartened that my car is showing wear after such a short amount of time and so little driving. I have a toyota that sees 100 times more use and the leather seats don't show this much wear.

My 09 ventilated seats are showing a little wear along the left side bolster area. I started ensuring I don't have wallet or other stuff in my back pockets (goes in the door pocket before I get in), as that was my wallet side. Its not gotten much worse since then. But I'm also rubbing my legs on the bottom of the wheel getting in and that surface is feeling scuffed.
What temp ranges has the car experienced?
In the Puget Sound, its in my garage at night, so it only gets 30'is weather a few days in the winter at the work parking lot, for a few hours a day, otherwise its in the 40-70 degree range for most of the year. I've got 12,000 miles on mine at this point. I don't think its cracking between the holes as much as the outer surface wearing a bit... but I'll take a closer look tonight to see whats what.

Regular application of leather preservative and careful entry/exit has kept my '06 fine with just a trace of scuffing on the left bolster seam of drivers seat. I use Griot but there must be many good choices. Lift yourself over the bolster rt leg/butt first and then swing leg over/drop in. Cracking is usually caused by leather drying out.

Prettty common for the entry side bolster to show some wear or scuffing due to the abrasion upon entry/exit.
I suggest you 'modify' the way you enter/exit to avoid the rubbing of that area. I try to 'lift' myself out of the seat rather sliding out . . . . If that makes any sense.

Cracking is caused by leather drying out.
Leather drying is accelerated by seat heaters and vented seats, sun exposure, and cold weather.
If using the seat heaters often in cold winters, you need to apply leather moisturizer as often as once a month.

It's very common to have slight wear along the side bolsters after a few years. Mileage really has nothing to do with it. You can travel 1000 miles in one trip or 50 10-mile trips. The latter obviously will have more wear and tear even though it's half the mileage. It also depends on which leather you have from porsche...there's a few types.
Your best bet is to always clean and condition (hydrate) the leather. Can you post a picture?
The remedy is pretty simple if there's noticeable wear. Depending on degree of wear, you will need to do the following based on level of success. If 1 doesn't work well, go to 2, and so on:
1. Clean and condition using a mild cleaner and proper conditioner
2. Condition and clean using Leatherique process
3. Re-dye the area affected. Make sure to take it to a specialist in high-end leather
4. Replace that side bolster piece of hide using OEM leather
Hope this helps.
