To answer #3: dealer says he only got the car in April 2010 and it's been on the lot for 13 months...
Yep.
A few questions are -
1) is the 2K over on the trade and the 17 percent off the result of a car sitting on an indepent lot rather than an authorized dealership .
and
2) If so why is a 50 mile car with an indy
and
3) if not .. why did it sit at an authorized dealership for two years with customers looking at it and saying "no thanks".

Answers to your questions...
1) No, it's an an authorized dealership
3) Good question, I'll ask today
I'm happy with their trade in appraisal, all the other dealerships offered me $2K less (just like the C2 dealer). However, if 17% off a 2010 is not good, what should I aim for? I think the market is quite tight nowadays, certainly compared to two years ago.
Also, what is a reasonable discount on a 2011? I thought 10% was ok, no?
Thanks

My feeling on an 10 leftover .. wish the dealership the best wishes with THEIR car . They will never sell it even close to what its really worth and lose money on the car .
On a 2011 car -- a lot depends on the car and options .. but don't count on 10 percent . The market is just too strong and its only May so they have time to sell it.
Figure 7-8 percent .

I have a dealer willing to do 10% on the 2011 C2 - good deal compared to $17% on the 2010 C4S?

Why not insist on getting the 2K more on the trade in AND a new 2011 C2S for the same 10 percent ?

The are the cars I want, but I also want a decent deal. I'm just trying to determine if the deals I'm being offered are competitive or not.

I think all cars at dealers are cars THEY want to sell....

I did test them both and love them both. Feel the 4S might be safer given the NY winters though...
To be honest, there doesn't seem to be a huge supply of new 911s out there right now...
