Tire Problems.. Anyone know what may have caused this chunking

Their service life has mostly consisted of track events and driving to the tracks. On the rear, the tires began to develop a problem where chunks of the tire were coming off. This didn’t seem to cause any drivability problems. I was wondering what was causing this problem, and if there is anything I can do to prevent it from happening again.

that used to happen to me when i ran street tires on the track.

you may need more toe in the rear, get alignment and go for the upper limit of toe instead of the lower limit in the recommended range.

IMO chunking is pretty normal for a track used tire... your tires are going through a lot of abuse (extreme heat cycling, massive g-forces etc.)

Here's a post-race tire on an F1 car:

here is mine, brand new PS2, my guy told me the stock suspension sitting higher causes the body to roll more and puts more pressure on the outside edges?? I only have 3 track days and the tires are pretty much shot, installing Motons, lowering and switching to a stiffer wall R compound tire.

He's right.
I installed GMG sways which are adjustable and eibach springs.

World of difference.

Motons on "the wish list" but she handles great now with this setup and a track alignment.

Cool picture. I have never seen a tire in this condition before. What exactly is it I'm seeing ? It looks like the tire has picked up a lot small chunks of other tires ? It that it or is the tire in the process of disintergrating from the stresses put on it during the race ?

Yep..that is clag. On the post race lap the drivers try to pick up as much as possible to ensure they make weight.

+1 above. It is clag to pick up weight for the post race weigh in. I believe it was Schumi that started this practice.
