There has been NO fires from the alternator to battery cable. The cable was replaced on the 997.2 (2009+) The replacement cable for the 997.1 is what is being used on the 997.2 cars and it does not cost $1062.32

No need to panic....

I'll add a few having spent the last 12 months sorting out a 2007 Targa 4S (but I'll leave out the roof stuff):
1. Lower control arm bushes- mine had to be replace with only 7,000miles travelled
2. Passenger door handle unit fails- related to the slave motor and window actuator
3. Rotors and pads
4. Water pump
5. Battery

Not sure why msn.com says the 2006 Porsche 911 is one of the 10 used cars to avoid? They even say it is a anomaly?

Spending for repair is sure costly but it cost more if such negligence causes accident.
When you need cash now to repair your vehicle, you can apply for a short term loan online. I remember hearing stories of my grandfather fixing the tires on his car every time his family wanted to go into town. Of course, this was at the height of World War II and tires were just not available for the consumer. Even today, older cars just need more attention and, in some cases, some cash now to afford repairs.

2006 carrera s

I now have 90,000 miles on my 2006 Carrera S. So far I replaced the water pump, replaced the 6 ignition coils that had cracks, and passenger side window track. So far so good.
