Carrera or Carrera S?
#31
I want an S, but it will come down to what is affordable. My main reason is that I wrench on my cars a lot and plan to track it. And since I have heard the brakes are easier to work on on the S, then it makes sense to me. But when the time comes and I cannot afford the S, I would rather wait another year. My goal is a 997.2 C2S.

Thanks..it is a lot of fun looking for cars. Especially because I have a routine. When I got my M5 i was on the boards reading day and night to the point my wife thought I was obsessed. Then I found the right one and got it.
Now I am doing the same thing on this forum. Not sure if there are any other ones that are worth reading but I have seen a wealth of knowledge and a willingness to help so it will make my choice of options on the car a lot easier.
The only problem is finding one that is what I want is the hard part. Seems like a White 997 C2S with AeroKit are a bit rare.

To me part of the modding fun is doing a little at a time. It gives you something to look forward to, like a perpetual Christmas.
Good luck in your search.

I would want the AeroKit like asap because I just love the looks of it and the wife has already fallen in love with it as well so if it doesn't look that way quick then I'm in trouble hahah

Well, having just jumped from 2008 base C2 to 2009 C2S, here are my observations:
1. Get all the options you want when you buy. I love PASM and the brakes in the S are tons better than the base. I think the brakes are from the Turbo. Far more capable.
2. 19" tires have less flex on cornering - helps handling.
3. PASM helps the ride. Buttons the car down. Car is also lowered.
4. 310 ft-lb of torque vs. 273 (not to mention the +60 hp) is quite noticeable.
5. The S with PASM and sport chrono makes the car feel more 'special'.
6. A base C2 exhaust is pretty tame to me; I would look into modding this if you go in that direction.
7. Base C2 will get a bit better mileage.
If I were to get a base C2, I'd get sport chrono, probably PDK, and upgrade the exhaust and go to 19"'s and I'd be a pretty happy camper.

I drove both a C2 and a C4S prior to purchase. Planned to be used as a weekend driver. Honestly, whereas I could tell the difference in the S (and AWD) and C2 from a drive and power perspective, the variance wasn't material for me.
I will admit to not being a driving enthusiast, rather, more of a casual stroller that enjoys going top down, on the local twisty roads, with enough power to "feel it" every once and a while (hence why a simple convertible wouldn't do), in a classically great looking car. I can see the merits of both. I guess it comes down to personal preference and interest. Can't go wrong either way.
I went with the C2 Black Edition.

Larry, no turbo here ..... I guess I jumped the gun on that one
To the OP, I would go S just for the value (even if you "think" you don't need the extras)...and I am by no means a " model range snob" as you can see from the cars I own.

OP got a base C2 already, a little late on your reply

In all honesty the power difference is what? 15hp? Thats nothing to write home about. Ive seen quite a few base 997's with a lot of options that sold for less then the "S" with less options. Ive driven both cars and they r virtually the same......... as far as power. Now the difference between 997.1 and 997.2 is probably a lot more noticeable....... as is the price tag lol

This is a great thread! I hear folks talking about differences between the C2 and C2s if you are going to track them. I'd love to hear what said differences there are between them. BTW, was at the Calif Speedway POC event on Friday and just watching all those p-cars (including some cup cars blazing down the back stretch) brings chills down your spine!
