Interior Paint Coating Flaking Off on 997

Howdy Guys

I am sure this thread has been mentioned but I had some problems finding it.

I am sure many of you have this same problem, as I've seen it on interior shots of 997s.

My 2006 Carrera has some of that rubber coating chipping off --- especially on the air conditioning switches..

And between the seats....

I dont get why the germans do this, as on my BMW's its also done this.

Any tricks for it? Any way to fix it up?

Thanks

I have a small chip of paint that's flaked off the outside edge of the passenger side seat from where the seat belt connector has rubbed it off.

Funny.. I've driven a whole bunch of new cars over the years, and I've never had the seat belt chip the paint off the seat..

I just noticed that I have some peeling in my '06 on the edge of the ash tray. My solution will be to paint my center console body color when it really starts to bug me. (ordering a new ash tray would be too easy)

This is a very common problem with the rubberized soft touch coating, it is caused by hand cream transferred to the switches (common with women driven cars). I know people that have tried the Testors model paint in Matte Black and liked the results.

I did some touch up on the A/C fan control ****. I used: Minwax Wood Finish Stain Marker 2718 Ebony. I bought it at Home Depot ~ 6 months ago. It did a great job. If I didn't point out where I did the touch up you would never know. The color is a match but you don't get any "thickness" or rubber feel out of the marker.

My friend had this issue on his 2006 that was still under CPO. The dealer just replaced the part under warranty.

I had the AC and fan buttons replaced under warranty. It was over $800 including parts and labor The new buttons are much more durable.
