Hi guys

Was wondering what your thoughts were on waiting to purchase a 991 or waiting for the right time to purchase a 997.2 at hopefully a good discount with the arrival of the 991. It seems that prices for 2009-2012 997.2 are extremely high right now likely because of the time of the year but also the fact that demand is higher then the current supply of cars. I was thinking of waiting till the fall to pull the trigger on a 997.2 and give me a chance to see the 991 before I make the decision on which car to purchase.

Any thoughts or recommendations?

 

Fall is not that far away and if you don't like the 991, by that time the 997.2 will be much cheaper due to the new model being out. Patience grasshopper.

definitely wait. it's a free option. when the 991's come out, you'll have better pricing power on the 997.2 models in addition being able to test drive the new model and see if it's worth that new model premium.

 

I've yet to read any confirmed launch date from Porsche .
The internet speculation of a 991 early release are not consistent with the 2012 cars which continue to remain as a 997 .

 

How can one compare a used 09 car priicing to a new release of a redesign ?

Just FYI -- when the 997 was launched (August 04 as an 05 model) dealerships were sold out . The 996 despite its controversial styling was also bought at the launch by many of the "I gotta have it" buyers . The same was the case with the 993 .

The 991 isn't even out yet and the dealership inventories continue to list 997 cars as the 2012 models . Of course time often is on the side of the buyer in terms of price as these cars depreciate .

In short .. waiting keeps money in savings but you won't have the car.

To come even close to the used 09 pricing of today(despite the strong used market) .. a 991 shopper might to wait a long time.

How long are you willing to wait for the car?
And do you think at that time you will be ready to spend estimated 40K to have the new 991 over a current used 2009 car ?
Or will you want a 4 year old 09 997 for 55-60K instead of the 75-80K of now ?

 

Tough decision-Plan is to keep the car for sometime and the question becomes will the 991 be that much better of a car or is it worth saving 40k for a well equipped 2009?

 

I just went through a similar decision. Planned on buying a 991 launch car or having one of the first orders. When I analyzed what the cost would be of buying at or near MSRP for what I want (plus a few grand of appreciation in cost), the delta was significant enough for me to go with a CPO'd 997.2 for now and upgrade once the "new release" hysteria cools off. I posted my buying experience earlier in the day today. Ended-up with a 2009 car at close to 40k off of original sticker with low mileage and 4+ years of warranty that was 99.7% of exactly what I would have ordered. In my book, that is rather significant and motivational. YMMV though- it's all about what is best and most important for you. Hope your search goes well!

 

I wouldn't wait, in fact I didn't and just bought a 2011 C2S! I got a great discount and considering I'll have this car probably 9-12 months earlier than being able to get my hands on a 991 (and at a significant cost differential) I saw no point in waiting.

I'll have this car for maybe 2 years and see how the 991 plays out. Let them get any early bugs out of the way, let the "must have it" crowd subside, let the dealer mark ups go away, and then I'll be ready to buy.

 

All I know is I love my 997.2.

Just leased a GTS as Porsche is working to setup todays buyers on strong 18 or 24 month leases so that they will be primed for 991 release.

Although, my intentions are to keep my GTS long-term, so I'm also considering purchasing the lease from Porsche. I can actually reduce my payment significantly, but have to decide whether it's my 'keeper' (which is how I explained it to my wife to get her to agree ).

I know the 991 will be good enough to eventually sway me to look & consider (the new ones almost always are), but I do LOVE my GTS and absolutely not interested in waiting for the 991 release and then the initial low supply issues are long-time Porsche owners work through their initial cars.

I also see a decent inventory at my local P-dealers (Dallas). From my perspective, there's a lot to choose from and they are being relatively aggressive in moving them.

So, to make a short answer long: DON'T WAIT! GET ONE NOW!

 

Proof that the prices will drop after september is this PNA program to add 3-5k to the trade in. It's valid for 997/987 only (Panamera/Cayenne out) and good up to Sept 1st. They tried to sell me a black edition, but at this time I would only upgrade to a GTS.
I believe that the discounts once the new model arrive will certainly surpass this change Porsche is adding. On top of that, one can expect some special APR as well.
I bought my 09 in Sept 09, just before the 10 models came. MSRP was 86, I paid 68 with 1.9% APR. Now imagine the same situation with a "new" model coming...
IMHO, if it's to buy a 991, I'll wait until is one year in the market so the not so used units help keeping the prices in check....

Hey guys thanks so much for your input. Just sold my 2005 C2S cab earlier this week and really missing it. Don't want my heart to get ahead of my head. I figure if I wait until the end of the summer I may be able to land a good deal on a 2009 C2S cab.

I recently saw a 2009 C2S cab listed for 89k low mileage ~9,000 miles. How much do you think the dealer would discount this car?

 

I think they gave 10 k on 09. I know they had enoughto give. 2010 sticker was 102k. I paid 82k. Brand new. 20 k playroom.
