It's looking more like the AOS could be the issue.

Hmmm, since coolant is involved I highly doubt it is the IMS... probably more likely the AOS (Air Oil Separator) since both oil and coolant go through it. I hope that ends up being your issue since it is not too bad a fix.

If its not on your dime I don't see it as an issue. I got a new engine 300 miles into owning a CPO'ed 05. Runs like a champ now and that includes at least 20 track days.

At this point it looks like it's the AOS which has also fouled the MAF ( mass air flow) sensor and also thrown oil throughout the whole system. So they're flushing everything out and trying to get all the oil out. Won't know more until tomorrow.
Turning into a nightmare. I don't know the long term effects of all the oil blowing through the emissions system...

The heat of the exhaust will burn any oil off in the exhaust system. It may take a few days (or more).

Are you working with Denis Codd from Newport? Great guy, he will take care of you. Best of luck man. Let us know the final outcome and what it's gonna cost to fix. We always wonder what the cost of repairs are on our toys once out of warranty. I'm debating an aftermarket warranty for this reason.

Do you think that's true for cats and sensors?

I have an 05 997. Should the AOS be replaced at a certain point in time?

Sorry to hear it's not a quick fix. I guess you could look at the bright side of things - at least it wasn't IMS failure. Best of luck.

While you have it all out are you going to do the IMS upgrade?

I know a car that had it's engine go, the MAF needed to be changed (maybe unrelated), but the cats are fine (AWE 200 cell).

Anyone have a picture of the AOS on the engine? Is it servicable or is it a dealer item? Any clues to what to watch for etc?

Gotta say, that car has a lot of miles. Lots of things could have happened. A lot of oil at the crankcase/transmission seam. Right where the oil comes out on RMS/IMS issues.

Right now it looks like it's just the AOS. Waiting to find out if I need new spark plugs. No luck on the good will.

Well thats actually good news.

If you are paying and you track the car, there is a motorsport AOS with greater capacity that you can fit to the 3.8

Think they have to make some brackets though to fit it.
