I've got an early build 2005 (Launch Car #337) so I'm following the thread w/ great interest. I about 23K miles w/ no issues. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Keep us posted regarding the Indy work.

Thanks . . . .
I also have an early '05 build Launch car - 41k with no issues.

It sounds like the OP's problem is not a typical RMS failure. It sounds like it happened as a result of the AOS issue and had nothing to do with the age or condition of the RMS.

You are mist probably correct. Rms was replaced when I did the clutch. The aos failure causes a vacuum which sucked the rms.

I have an 05 997 and my oil-Vap seperator was leaking internally on my car at 17K miles causing lots of smoke. It was replaced and everything has been fine since. I did change the RMS when the clutch was replaced later on and wished that I changed the IMS also. Next time the engine needs to be separated I will definately change that.

Is the oil-vap seperator the same thing as the AOS? Because I would also like to know if this is something that we should replace as a maintenance item.

Oil-vap separator and AOS are the same thing.

What is the degree of difficulty in replacing the AOS?

My understanding is that the AOS is not that difficult to replace, however, many seem to go with the higher quality unit available in the GT3 cars.

update.

Ok. So here's where I'm at.
Porsche replaced the AOS and I paid about $1300 for it. It would have been a lot cheaper at an Indy but at the time I did not have the information to assess what had gone wrong.
Most likely my Indy would have charged less ( I'll find out and let you all know- their labor rate is $130) ---correction $112

The rms is bring replaced. Cost about 800-900 plus oil change.
I am updating the ims with an updated part from l and n which is actually going to be about 1200. The part itself is about $520. Rest is labor.

So rms and ims for $2000( see Eric from hergesheimers breakdown above)
Indy us Hergesheimer in lake forest , ca. In orange county. They are also a l and n dealer.

Marc

I've heard nothing but good stuff regarding Hergeshimer. With a new AOS, RMS & improved IMS you should be worry free for quite awhile.

Altogether it looks close to what you would have paid for an extended warranty had you purchased one...

My experience with extended warranties on my previous porsche has made me shy away. I'd rather pay as I go and avoid their craziness. Lol
