K40 rl 360

Anyone using this radar? Been using V1 hardwired for long time but want a stealth install due to many drives through CT where radars are illegal. Also I drive my car to the city and dont like taking the V1 down all the time.
Need a permanent solution and V1 doen't have one.

Installer recommends K40 RL 360. I think its new.

I just got it on my 4s, its great, I had a escort 9500 xi hard wired before. the K40 is way better and nothing is exposed, sensitivity is a world apart.

+1. Had mine installed a few months ago. Love it! Call K40 and they will give you the names of local installers and what cars they installed it on. Very helpful customer service.

Install was completed today. So far so good. Came across reviews that were all over the map but there are enough positive reviews that I went with it. It seems the Calibre K40 was the model that gave K40 a bad rap. I love my V1 and still have it, but needed a premanent solution.

Thanks for the replies.....

I was just checking, I didn't see that detectors are illegal in CT. They are only illegal in Virginia. V1 is the best, not sure why you would give it up.

When you enter into CT, it clearly state on the sign that the use of radar detectors are not allowed. But this was not the only reason why I wanted a permanent solution. I drive into the City and don't want to have to take the V1 down everytime.

If V1 had a permanent solution I would probably buy it, but I did a lot of research before I bought the K40 (keep in mind this is the RL 360 not the Calibre) and the reviews are pretty good. There are certainly a lot of opinions on the V1, but not a lot of emperical evidence that clearly proves its the best, period. Don't get me wrong, I have been using the V1 for a long time but went for a permanent solution including a laser jammer.

Sorry bud, the radar detector law was repealed in CT in 1998 according to the attached. Apparently they didn't take all of the signs down. I only bring this up because I was just checking into them and was thinking about getting a V1. I've never used a radar detector.

Why are you sorry? I wanted a sleek install for my P car and going to move my V1 over to my truck which I drive 70% of the time. If I don't like the K40 I can turn it off and use my V1.

As to radars being legal in CT, that's good news. Now I don't have to worry about my V1 being on my dash when I don't take the P car.

You mentioned V1 being the best. Is this fact or your opinion? Curious..... thanks. I wish after all these years V1 would offer a hidden install along with jamming capabilities.

No big deal. Actually, they do make the concealed install for a V1, the remote audio and the remote display. The real stealth install is to have the display installed in your mirror - I saw a Porsche with the mirror install once. But as you say, it does not have the jamming capabilities.
Purely anecdotal evidence on the V1. I've never owned a detector. Has it saved you on the turnpike? I sold my car and now have a red one, so I'm wondering if I need it since now my car is a "cop magnet"!

In my readings of reviews and forums the valentine 1 and escort 9500xi run neck and neck as the top choice.

The Val1 may provide slightly better coverage.

While the 9500xi may provide less false warnings.

I have a K40 Calibre, and despite all the bad press, it has saved me some tickets for sure.

Yes, over the last 20 years of driving (I'm not that old but have been driving over 20 years) they have saved me many times. In 2004 when I had a 2003 M5, I was heading to the BMW M driving school in SC and was all alone on the road, going too fast and my laser jammer wents nuts. LEO just sat there.

PS - driving a red car screams for a ticket but they say red is the fastest color.

Talking to the installer (John from Euro Car in Shrewsbury NJ) he was telling me that the Calibre is a decent radar but the problems were with the batteries in the remote that always went dead, were tough to find and you could not turn on/off the system with a dead remote. This gave the system a bad rap.

Weird, I find batteries at the local Walgreens. Haven't had any problems with battery life either. I have the laser jammer, but don't know how effective it truly is. I drive often over the limit and have always had enough pre warning to avoid a ticket.
