997 feels like rev limiter at 3000 RPM - Any ideas?

I got a bad tank of gas once. The symptoms sound similar to the OP's. Under partial load I was fine under high load/boost it fell flat. This was a club race car with filters before and after the external fuel pump. Pulled the filters and found a lot of very fine dirt. Flushed the tank/lines/fuel rail and installed new filters. Problem solved.

Learning Durametric now, 808c2s. Thanks for the link - very helpful. Also good to know that others get misfire readings as well.
I also wondered about the fuel situation. I can't remember exactly where the fuel level was, but it's an outside possibility that the new tank is somehow corrupted. I think my light had just come on which means that the 110 miles I drove w/o incident is probably an unlikely correlation.
I'm now thinking maybe it's a timing belt thing. I'll know for sure when I get her into the shop... AFTER I go to Vegas tomorrow
