Not really saying that a decision should be made to do it or not to do it, but just curious about who is even considering the thought of making the switch. From the pictures I am liking what I see, so I am just planning on heading to the dealers when it comes out to discuss some options if I like what I see in person. Not set in stone on a trade, but would consider it based on the info available

Just curious....what made you get rid of the 08S for the 09?

how about you?
I am going to keep both of mine until I see a car in person which convinces me . My guess is that it might be the next Turbo but I don't know so I will just hang on to both of these.

I don't know if the 997 will take a huge hit . Even the 996 which was not well accepted held value over time . When I traded in my 2002 996 car on a launch 05 997 car I got a decent trade in (MSRP on the 996 was 79 , paid 73.5 , and traded it in at 54 after two years . Plus the entire front end had been torn apart by xenon light theives in a parking lot so much of the car was painted and repaired ).

I am feeling the same way around the posts in this thread. i have an 07 C2S I bought new and I now have $51K miles on it (not a garage queen but being black on black it is a necessary hobby/obsession!)

I have the same concerns around a new model though I am anxious to see the new model up close. With such great models out now (Turbo S and GTS especially) and maybe more to come as they try to get rid of the 997.2 stock there will be some great cars available at likely great deals so I am torn.

Shaking down a 991.0 new model fills me with a little dread compared to a 991.1 but then you would never buy.

So when it is time I think I will take a look at the new model but look hard at the 997.2, especially the Turbo S.

my 2 cents

Looking at the specs and photos released so far, I'm not sure it would be trading 'up'. Only time will tell.

This is where I'm standing...

(although I don't currently have one to 'trade', I'm not exactly on pins and needles ready to order one before it's release date)

No, but will be looking at well cared for 09/10's traded in. 2012 will probably be a good year to be shopping for a pre-owned 997.

That's a good point, but I have a question about re-sale value. This is my first Porsche and I never really had the intention of getting rid of it, but the PDK and new features look really enticing.

How do all the add-ons hold their value when trading/selling your car? For example, my car came equipped with red belts, gauges, calipers, painted wheels, aero kit, illuminated door sills, crested console and seats, etc... Obviously this added cost to the car new, and I have been wondering if these things will help the resale value at all

The short answer is no. These options will be worth a small fraction of what they cost new.

I agree .
Add ons do offer some perks beyond the years of ownership enjoyment ....
when trading in the car the used car folks do notice them and if the car has the "right options " (translation --what they think will sell) it may sweeten the trade in offer.

Here's an example .. my last M3 (traded in) had a ton of options and was in impeccable shape despite the miles .. I see it's listed --look at the asking price compared to the other M3 cars. Mine was the black car with 36K miles (and yes i did get a high trade in ).

I've only had my car for 3 months, and I can't see myself tiring of it anytime soon. So I plan on holding off for a few years. Besides the last time I bought the first model year of a car, I ended up replacing two transmissions as Acura hadn't realized they needed a stronger transmission with a more powerful engine.

Likely yes but not tradeup... and I will wait a couple of years for bugs to be fixed. My plan is to keep my 997.2 and perhaps make it my daily driver, Make the 991 a garage queen, and give my kid my E320 when she turns 16. I will say I am concerned about the 991 size and the interior is not to my liking yet but can't wait to see it at the dealer. Plus, I also need to figure out what I do with the Fisker that I am on the waitlist for. If I get that, the 991 is not likely going to happen. However, if I wasn't married I'd have them all. On the flip side, if I were divorced, i couldn't afford any of them.
