Hi guys, i'm new here in the forum, and I really need your help here. The thing is I'm thinking of changing my 2006 cayman S for a 2006 carrera S with 2 more years of warranty with the dealer. Any advices on it ? Pros and cons, performance, brakes, suspension, reliability, interior wise. Help me here guys I haven't decide it yet.

I looked briefly at the Cayman and bought the 997, for the looks, performance and the fun of trying to keep the car going in the right direction.

I am not sure about an '06 model , but...
When I got my Porsche I wasn't even in the market for a car. A friend of mine was in town and wanted to look at used Porsches.
While he was looking, I was on the new side checking cars out. Had never driven a Porsche and knew the dealer, so I asked him if I could drive this Cayman S he had out there. Took it out, had fun, told him I wasn't interested in buying it.
Then, he put us in a base Carrera and sent us off again... totally different experience, at least to me. I felt the interior was better quality, the ride was significantly better and, for me at least, it just clicked.
He saw the look on my face when I got out he asked what I thought. I said "I don't even know what a Cayman is right now" lol. But still wasn't going to buy it.
So, he gives us the key to a 4S with sport chrono/PDK and I've never been the same since. It was Sat night and he said "This is going to be the deal maker, you'll be back to buy this car on Monday." But I didn't. I waited until Wednesday, lol! (Although I came by and looked at the car every day and every night in between Sat & Wed!)

Long way of saying, drive the Carrera S. If it speaks to you, get it. If not, keep what you have. The badge means nothing, the feeling you get from it is everything. At least to me.

By the way, my friend never bought a car, the bastard! And meanwhile he got me all obsessed and I spent a ton of money!

A same year jump to own a car which will sell at retail and have no warranty doesn't sound convincing . Why not trade the 06 cayman for newer 997S OR how about a new Cayman ?

Agreed.

Between the two, I prefer the Cayman S. I love the way it moves, feels, etc... (I wrote up a small review on another thread in the Cayman section).

There are a lot more advantages to the Carrera S (interior, miniscule back seat, raw feeling, etc...), and only one to the Cayman S (engine placement/balance). But that lone advantage worked for me.

I'd say that is the interior was improved a bit on the Cayman, with the same engine packages, there would be no need for the Carrera base line (non-turbo).

*edit: That said, I would not choose either as my primary car. This was for a specific purpose of a second car. First car would be (in the Porsche line-up) Turbo. Everything else seems restrained, or intentionally held back.

Drive both cars and make a gut/impulse decision about what felt better. Then never look back. You really can't go wrong with either. For me, both cars felt good, but the 911 scared me a little. So I went with the 911.

Lol, I still him crap about that. But, now we are bonified Porsche people and even ordered a 2012 Cayenne!
Thanks for the car compliment. The pics are crappy, I'm obviously not a professional or even good amateur photog. But I love the car. Hoping to take better pics when I get it back form the shop (guy rear-ended me ).
