Any Reason to go for 997.1 over 997.2 other then money?

Hi guys,

I am about to pull the trigger, have more or less 3 cars to choose from.
While the 09 I am interested in after hard negotiation goes for about 9k more then an 08 without much negotiation so I'd say maybe a 10-11k difference.
I feel its not much considering what I get;

More warranty, 15k less on the clock, dfi engine, more hp, new pcm and so on.

BUT, its just that little tiny bit over my initial Budget. Considering I also want to spend some decent money on the family hauler. I mean I could stretch the wallet obviously, whats 10k at this level.

IS there anything that speaks for an 08/07? Maybe long-term reliability or anything else?

I am not sure how long I want to keep the car, that will depend on how much I love it and my financial situation - it could be 2years it could be 15.

Any thoughts? In case someone thinks the prices seem wrong - I live in Canada and we have not to much to choose from - that's about what i can get. And I have decided not to import from states.

Thanks for the time

I drive a 09 C2S, and I would say its hands down that big of a difference. Huge leap in my opinion. To give you an idea of the leap I speak of, a 2007 GT3 barely pulls on a DFI C2S. It takes late in 4th gear where the GT3 starts to pull. Also, and Mike Carter will vouch for me, we give the .1 GT3 guys a run for there money. Of course, a C2S isnt faster, but for what are working with, the car performs excellent!

You could say the same mumbo jumbo about how the car is better than the previous generation. But in this case, it really is. Some Points:

-Obviously more power, but MOST important, much more midrange power
-DFI engine, so aside from more power, better fuel economy.
-Suspension and SPASM is much more dialed in, and handles better
-The brakes calipers and rotors are bigger. Way better stopping power
-And the interior/exterior upgrade.

All that for 10k? Yeah, I would say its definitely worth it....

pretty much sold me - I mean emotionally speaking its a nobrainer for the 997.2 and I also feel it makes sense if you use your head unless there is reason to believe the 997.1 ages better

2) no " I shoulda got the .2 " regrets..

the choice is easy...If you can swing it, get the .2

I went through the same decision process and ended up with an 09 C2S manual. I'll second the 997.1 Gt3 comments. However, with equal tires and drivers over the course of a lap th 997.1 GT3 will be ahead. The 997.2 is a great daily driver which is quite good on the track and is probably more capable stock than most drivers.

I have now owned both an '08 C2S (manual) and an '09 C2S (PDK) which is mine temporarily until my new PTT arrives (long story, not sure I even want to get into it on the forum...) and I'm astonished at how much peppier the '09 is. It's like night and day to me. Had I originally owned the '09 I probably wouldn't have ordered and be waiting for a PTT at all - it's THAT MUCH better.

The 997.1 has the IMS which theoretically can cause a ( disasterous) problem. The 997.2 has DFI which is not a disasterous problem but can become quite a ( chronic)problem. Believe me... I have a BMW with DFI and it is nothing but problems.
