New Clutch...OEM or Aftermarket?

I have an 07 C4S with only 25k miles. My clutch is shot. I am not sure if I need a new flywheel yet , but since I do not track the car I am wondering if I should go aftermarket. I think 25k seems like low mileage for a clutch to go. Any suggestions?

It is low. Sounds like the previous owner was el crapo on the 6 speed. If you will not track and drive a manual well then the OEM should be fine.

A clutch driven properly lasts past 100k miles. An after-market clutch with a LWFW is even harder to master...

don't feel bad.

i had to replace mine couple of weeks ago with only 32k on the odo (i got it with 14k)

i know i don't abuse the clutch and i've been driving stick for 20years without problems.

BTW when i looked at my 'damaged' clutch, it didn't look too bad.

comments re pics? Thx

The pressure plate looks like it got too hot.

I agree. It looks pretty toasty. It's surprising how quickly someone that doesn't know how to drive a manual can ruin it. Especially if they live in a hilly area.

I am not a fantastic manual driver and do not really track the car, so when i did my change, i just went with OEM clutch and it works perfectly fine.

this is a newbie question, but I know riding the clutch at high RPMs is terrible. Is it equally as bad to ride it at low RPMs? For instance, in traffic I'll ride the clutch some, sub 10 mph and 2k RPM. I do the same when reversing into my garage. Should I avoid even doing that?

unneccessary clutch riding will lead to premature wear. if you are sub 10mph and 2k rpm, you can just disengage the clutch until you need to continue moving forward.

the previous owner lived in bev hills and had a practice in santa monica..

Anthony from RSS told me i had a clutch problem (vibration when disengaging the clutch in the 1st) when i had my cargraphics installed there less than one month after i got the car.. when i asked the dealership, they said it's not covered under CPO.. so i decided to keep driving it until the problem worsened

To be honest, i did launch the car by dumping the clutch (one time in that month of ownership) @ 4000 rpm.. got tremendous wheel hops before the tires hooked up. but i don't slip my clutch more than the next guy.

OP, i would go with the OEM and sorry for the hijack

No problem. I am going OEM. I guess I was more concerned with longevity than anything else since the original clutch only lasted 25k. I bought my car with 14k as well and have no idea how the original owner drove it. I used to drive a stick when I was younger and had not driven one for years. Possible I attributed to its demise. Good news is the Flywheel is fine.

Oem

Had the same problem. 2nd owner. I think the clutch is a bit lightweight and easy to burn up if abused. Still the OEM clutch is probably your best bet unless you are a track junkie.

Can't remember the post but there have been discussions on here regarding problems with aftermarket clutches you could probably find with a search.

The best way to think about it is that it a wear item that costs less than a set of tires.

Enjoy!

I've had lots of manual cars and only replaced one clutch in my first car a used Saab. I blame that on my brother as we shared the car. Easiest way to keep a clutch for a long-long time, don't ride it, don't get on the gas until it is fully engaged and proper rev-matched shifts.
