20K/2 Year Service Cost Sanity Check

Hey folks:

Quick question - I brought my '08 C4S in for her 20K/2 year service. Work was quoted at around $1,100 that caught me by surprise.

Is that within range of something reasonable? This is Beverly Hills Porsche so understand it may be a bit more.

Thanks for any input you may have.

Brad

That's a lot more than I just paid at Walters Porsche out in Riverside. Basic two-year service is just an oil change, cabin filter, and the usual elaborate checks of any exotic car. I suspect they included a new air filter and new wiper blades at least. Maybe a wheel alignment? Even with the probable difference in service rate between Riverside and Beverly Hills, something had to be in there that I declined. The filter and blades probably add $300 I'd say offhand, but I'd have to check my service record to see what the basic cost was.

I'll do that if we don't get a detailed response from someone else that makes it unnecessary. If you declined the estimate, give Auto Gallery and Walters a call for their estimate. I've had good experience with both shops.

Thanks for your reply - here's the service est:

20K service
Brake fluid flush
multi-point inspection

doesn't call out filter or blades - labor rate is $170 hours. Perhaps it's time to switch.

Thanks for the info again

20k break flush sounds way to quick unless the car was tracked and there was excessive breaking but 20k miles idk.. i could be wrong

20K/2 year service should be oil/filter change and brake flush IIRC, and various checkups. That is one expensive service. I would try to find an Indy. Those services will cost about $300-400 at an Indy.

Here is another tip I usually do with my MB. I don't go in telling them I need A, B, and C or 1, 2, or 3 year service, I read the service manual and it tells me what I need and recommend changes for those years. I call in and tell them I need oil/filter, brake flush, transmission flush, etc. They will do complimentary multi-point inspection anyway, at least Porsche and MB does around here and they are the same inspection, on the list of things to check for so and so service.

Do the brake flush at 2 years. That's what Porsche recommends, and for good reason -- brake fluid absorbs moisture, which lowers it efficacy. At its extreme, you get vapor lock.

My advice: but the fluids on the web and find yourself a quality indy to save $$.

Thanks again for all your help to everyone. I called and confirmed that brake fluid should be done at 2/20.

They are indeed replacing the cabin filter as well.

My guess is I'm prob being squeezed $400-$500 (50% - ouch) by these guys. Going forward I'll go elsewhere -

Thanks

Yes. I forgot to include that. I had the flush done also. The Porsche system is 'open' meaning the reservoir is not sealed off from the atmosphere so over time moisture is absorbed. You won't see symptoms as early as two years unless something very unusual is going on, but the whole point of routine maintenance is to head off problems. Do the flush.

Make them break out the costs. That service should be $500. The brake flush can be a real dealer rip off.

Brake flush was around $250-$275. It all feels way too much. I'll vote with my feet.

I would change brake fluid out at two years or 20K miles. The brake fluid gets old and can cause issues in the system regardless of a car being tracked or not.
