Why is PDK so popular? Manual Vs. PDK
#31
If I understand correctly, all modern Ferrari and Lamborghini also have gone away from sticks and went dual clutch auto.
I am waiting for that to happen for all Porsche, then our manual cars will rise in resale prices.

I read this as well somewhere. However, those cars are a bit different in that their aren't mass produced. It probably was too costly to have both options for such a small production car. I don't think manual will go away in Porsche that soon. I must admit that now that I live in a more urban area at times, I wish I had the PDK.

For me it depends on the specific model porsche. Any of the GT (2 or 3) I would only get manual (if they ever make a PDK for them), but for a regular turbo or C2S then I would prefer the PDK. The 997.2 TT is sooo much faster in PDK then manual and the assisted clutch is f'ing horrible anyway. I had my C2S with PDK and never found myself wishing I had manual, even after driving my friends manual or driving them at the porsche driving school. Putting a PDK in sports plus is insane even with my C2S.
I love both for different reasons. I hope they never take away the option all together. That would BOTHER me.

As long as people continue to choose sports cars largely based on performance numbers (0-60, lap times, etc.), automated transmissions will become more common. But of course the trend may eventually reverse as the technological intrusion becomes excessive and people long to return to a more pure driving experience. It comes down to how much you want to drive the car, as opposed to letting the car driving itself.

Speaking of the car driving itself. First saw this on BBC's Top Gear. Now it has evolved further.
