Why is PDK so popular? Manual Vs. PDK
I've seen so many PDK Porsches and I kinda bothers me. I don't get why people don't like stick shift anymore Is it really that good? Whats the good part of having one? I know that its faster.

Faster than 6sp, wife won't complain about your jerky shifting, and oh yea...most of all faster... Good for DD or going around the track.

I have both . I like both . Each has strengths as well as weak areas .
PDK is shift efficient , offers manual and auto choices , won't over rev .
Manual is traditional and engages the driver with a diffent level of interraction .
PDK auto modes are in my opinion --lacking practical use . (disclaimer others might disagree)
Manual over revs or miss shift inhibit driver efficiency as well as engine wear.
So there's computerized efficiency as well as inadequacy in the same sysyem .
And there's driver involvement and human error in another.
The strengths of one bring out the weakness of the other .. and visa versa .
Having both is ideal .
Why does the popularity "bother " you ?
One can buy either . What someone else chooses to drive ought not matter.

it´s analog vs digital. the world goes digital in all areas, even Porsche does.
It´s sad but nothing will stop this trend. u can blame B. Gates if u want !

PDK is fantastic to drive. As "engaging" as it is to drive manual, I love that you can concentrate on braking, acceleration, and lines. I know I'd be a good margin faster in a PDK car over a manual if all else was equal (even with the added weight of the PDK).

As long as Porsche continues to build manual 911, then it doesn't bother me at all.
I have PDK in the Panamera, ended up always driving it in auto mode. I enjoy it in a different way than my manual 911s.
Life is good to have options. Life is even better with multiple Porsches.

The PDK is an option and I would agree a better fit for those frequently bogged down in traffic. They said its quicker in shifting sure, but it does not mean it would win the race all the time. Those are two different things.
I know a PDK is different from an SMG, but the idea is to have a "third pedalless" automobile.
But after having automatics and an SMG, I wanted a manual transmission car. Not because I am a good driver but I just wanted to go back to it. Believe me some of you will be back to a manual transmission.
Some people in this forum has mentioned that its a new technology and would be in all cars in the future. Thats what they envision when an automatic transmission was invented.
And just like what Mark Twain said,
"THE REPORTS OF MY DEATH IS GREATLY EXAGGERATED."

That is reason enough.
Also parts are not made available the same as before, and I can't seem to find a manual car off the lot.
Porsche will give the people what the people want, and if what they all want is PDK, then Manual will go the way of the dodo soon... hand-brake did

As for the handbrake, it's that lever between my seats I hope. Been using it that way anyhow. Really must check the owners manual.

Wow, markets sure differ. I test drove half a dozen p-cars buying ours and every one was manual. They had PDK's on the lot as well, but they certainly had no shortage of manuals.

well, the canadian and lebanese market have a huge shortage of manuals
the wait time on a manual in Beirut was 1 1/2 year as opposed to the standard 2-3months for an auto.
My car had been on the lot for 8months without so much as a glance of interest. Half price because it was manual.
in Montreal they didn't have a single manual on the lot.. all auto

Check out Porsche Panorama magazine, this issue and the last, parts I and II on the PDK/Manual debate... heated and emotional stuff.
