Let me know once you've pulled the trigger. I would like to hear what your car sound like with the bypass and AWE mufflers.

Will do. Where in the east bay are you? I probably need to see a client in Danville in a couple of weeks. I'm really happy with the AWE exhaust components. No real seat of the pants performance gain, but the sound is great...without being rude or boy racer.

JD, that's where I am! Send me a PM (I know, I don't have enough posts on 6speed to send you one as I'm more active on Rennlist) and we can work out the details.

Plus, there is nice demand for the 9x7 stock shifter assembly from those w/ 9x6s to the tune of $175-200 - it's an SSK alternative to them compared to stock shifters which have 100 yard throws.

Net-net, it'll be $50-60 more for the OEM SSK but you'll save that in time not having to laboriously cut the plastic retainers (which are a real PITA) retrofitting an SSK in your stock housing.

Good luck

Bought an OE Porsche SSK and will have my dealer install it. It will be more, but I want the best one I can get to have the least amount of install / shifting issues down the line.

Got it from Suncoast:

DirtyVegas it's not that expensive, dealer charged me $360 for the install of the SSK and Rear Center Console. Your going to love it!! What I don't understand is that I drove the car this am and I didn't have any issues when it's cold? Anybody have info on this issue?

I had that 1st gear issue even before installing the SSK. I wonder if it's just because the car doesn't haven enough miles to break in the shifter yet?

It's not the shifter that's the problem, it's the gearbox. The shifter is completely free floating (pivoting on the bushings) when the 2 connecting cables to the gearbox are disconnected.

I am interested getting this done. What is the advantage of SSK? Is it just the shorter throw? Faster shifting? Anybody had ssk installed and wanted to go back to stock?

Onewinwon I have had it now for a couple of says and I will tell you this, it's awesome to shift with the ssk. The shift seems more precise and smooth. I'm loving it, I'm glad I did it, thanks to those who recommended this mod.

I have always wondered why Porsche even made the standard shifter. All cars should come with these short shifters as standard. Must be another gimmick to charge extra for upgrades.

I have the factory SSK (and it's awesome) but still have difficulty getting into first somewhat often. I quick "clear shift" to second then first with clutch depressed throughout and it seems to do the trick.
