Parking Porsches at the local mall
#16
It's a worldwide trend that can't really be ignored. Even where I work, we have parking garages that are partially full, and that's where most of the "nice" cars tend to park. Even on private property (a corporate campus) vandalism still happens. My poor old SL even ended up with a new scratch about a month ago. When you complain to the security people, they almost seem to enjoy the news. Sad, but the people that don't own or will never own a 911 or TT will always resent those that do.
But the increase in vandalism, especially by kids, bothers me.

Auto Show
I was at the auto show in Cleveland several years ago and was amazed at the parts and pieces that were missing or removed from the BMW and Porsche booths. Anything that was removable (emblems, side lights shifter handles, etc. were removed by the salespeople prior to them being stolen. One of the BMW's had the wires hanging out of an exterior side light. Most of the Porsche cars and trucks were locked only to be opened by the sales people....
Unreal.....

I grew up in a middle class neighborhood and remember when my mom celebrated closing a big business deal by buying a brand new BMW 5-series. We had an open-air carport and one night during the first week, someone came in and keyed the whole side of the car (two doors and a quarter panel). We filed a police report, had the car fixed, and within a month had the carport bricked off complete with garage door so it wouldn't happen again. Jealous neighborhood kid? Who knows, but a hefty expense to rebuild our comfort level with owning a nice car. . .this was 15 years ago . . . some things never change!

They're just hoping that some of your Porsche will rub off onto their car. Happens to me all the time, and today a new BMW 750 parked next to me, still checked the doors for dings.
Kudos to the OP for intervening, too bad more people wouldn't do the same.
