I believe the reason for th drastic price differences is mainly "duty" and some taxes many countries impose on new cars. Import duty and taxes can easily amount to 100% of the price of the car! The US, Canada as well as certain other countries levy far less tax and duty hence the better prices here

Unfortunately it is not only the government that is taking advantage of the situation. When I bought my 996 in '02 and the dollar was 30% less I could understand it. Now that the dollar is nearly 40-50% higher I cannot. The taxes are just under the 50% of the cost of the vehicle even on that basis the 991 should be priced under $200K but hell no its closer to the $300K. Porsche has a lot to do with the pricing and the inflated price they charge in Australia. At the same time it would not be possible for them to drop the price as it will kill off the second hand market and the value of the current vehicles driving around pissing off the current owners.

Here is what we have to put up with

'98 993 Cab AUD$178K second hand / used vehicle
'02 996 Cab AUD$222K New vehicle
'11 991 C2 AUD$229K New Vehicle (wonder what the cab will be)
'11 991 C2S AUD $263K New Vehicle

Once you add on road costs to the 991 C2S it will be closer to the $300K mark which is just nuts. But if we want one we just have to suck it up.

The stretch makes it look even lower slung. Sightly lower overall, so you get a bit of curve over the fenders, really a sexy redesign. The rear taillights are reminiscent of a Z8 to me, slick. I'm not feelin the Panamera interior, but Im sure it will grow and on me and everyone else. If everyone checked out the German magazine, I didn't see anyone comment on the 20" wheels that will be available... P has jumped the shark to the poseurs.

Holy smokes I didn't realize it is that bad, you guys are getting royally screwed. Ok I'll stop complaining about our price discrepancy with the US, and fortunately if we feel like dealing with a little paperwork we can always import a car from the US.

I guess you don't see too many P-cars, Audi's or the like.

Are those above official price in Australia? I just call my dealer and there isn't any price list, option list nor production schedule out yet. My oder will not arrive earlier than June or July since the maximal quota can get is aroune 4/5 monthly.

That is official pricing for Australia. If I place an order now I will have it at the same time as launch cars (March) arrive. I am willing to wait and see - I am also more interested in the C4S but could be swayed with the C2S

Funny you do see quite a few german cars around. Audi has quite a strong following as does, BMW and Merc. Porsche cannot keep up the demand for Cayennes (base price for the V6 is over AUD$100K/USD$105K)

Audi is the most reasonable in pricing but still get slugged. I would do anything to be able to have a PCar at the US price. At the price we pay I would take one of each if I were in the US.

Here is one for you Ferrari 458 ..... are you sitting down .... $682K plus on roads takes it to roughly $750K.......... that said and done I wouldnt trade Australia for the luxury of buying cheaper cars (hmmmmmmmmm).

I was speaking (complaining about Canadian prices) to a friend of mine that works at Rolex and he mentioned to me that dollar per item sold the US is the worst margins in the world but the highest profitability as an entire country (in the world). At the end of day its still a volume game even if its just across the boarder. Not sure how this would apply to cars but I am sure it holds some truth.

You can translate these docs by saving them to your computer, then going to http://translate.google.com/, and then click on translate a document, and upload the PDF. The final product doesn't look great since it removes all the pictures, but at least you can read it.

agreed, more curves and sleeker, 20" wheels for the first time, blacked out headlights (Porsche exclusive) for the first time, Porsche rear lettering for the first time. there is lots of going on in the looks department of the new 911.

P.S. taillights are almost identical to the ones of the 918 concept
