2012 Porsche 911: This is it

i don`t think it´s mainly because Porsche want it to be a GT, they had to extend/lengthen the wheelbase in order to to accommodate the upcoming hybrid drivetrain. Technically it was simply necessary to stretch it.

The headlights look liek mickey rourke's fingernails:

I actually love the side profile shot of it but NOT that pic sanders911 posted.
I also do not like porsche on the back. Looks cooler without it

First 991 test drive - Planet9 drives a 991 test mule.
Notice that this fellow's metric is to bring the 911 to his idea of a 'stable' car like his Cayman... Thanks, but no thanks.

Ok here is my 1st impressions:
1) Ok its nice but I miss the mean look of the current one.
2) No hand brake - really? On a MT ?
3) The interior is actually cleaner then our Cayenne so good move.
4) I am sure it will be "better" but the 997.2 is an immediate classic.
5) I called my dealer to ask about the dead date to order a 2012.
I think it will be more of a comfortable DD with some more luxury items to push into the GT range - interesting to see what they do with the GT3/2/RS etc.

The rear does look like an Aston Martin, but the front does not:
I was hoping they would make the front lights more like the Panamera's -- more modern and eye catching. THe lights are still too round, they need to be almost like an ellipse, and that hood needs two creases somewhere in it to reflect light, give it some aggression.
Other than that, the car is fairly attractive. Will drive like a car twice its price point though.
THe other vehicle I was hoping Porsche would take a cue from is the alfa romeo 4c, it looks like a 911 -- just hotter from the front:
Overall its good...esp if you bought other 911's...your money is well spent, design isn't outdated. Even a 996 MkII looks "brand new" on the street these days, can't tell its 3 cycles old.
But whatever, Porsche 911 isn't about the looks...it can't be. Its about the drive.
Nothing drives like this at this price point. Nothing. Its amazing. that is what wins you over.

It's a 911... what's not to like. I'll have to put eyes on one in person before I'll know for sure, but it's a nice transition from the current model. I'm not crazy about the long rear overhang, but that just might be in the 'photos' - if those are actual photos.
The thing I don't like about it is how big it's become - 4 extra inches in the wheelbase over the current 997 variant.. that's going to make it a noticeably big(ger) car.

I like the front, more aggressive. Rear looks good minus the billboard like emblems. Rear wing looks bigger and better.
Would the extra inches on the rear improve handling towards a mid engine layout? Maybe ruin the traditional 911 handling?

Looks to me like the extra 4 inches are mostly behind the rear axle. Maybe I am off base, but feels like they took a 997, pushed the engine back a few inches to get a more workable rear seat and away you go.
Assuming this is in the ballpark of correct...question is what does that do to handling on an already ***-heavy car? Knowing Porsche, they are way ahead of me and were able to advance performance in all categories. Might be better just to focus on how they pulled it off...

That tall rear-end, though. Meh. Have to see one in person.
Then there are those tali lights...
Okay Porsche, you want to build a GT, then build a serious dedicated GT and leave the 911 alone as a true sports car. Of course, much of the things here on the exterior have been done in response to Europe's increasing safety standards from what I'm hearing...

this
I have to also see the numbers... a test drive is in order and would need to see the interior in person
