2012 Porsche 911: This is it
#46
It is very, very hard to look at the rear overhang of that car. There is too much painted surface, it reminds me of the vast uniform expanse of a boat or a C5 Corvette. Quite hideous honestly.

Just what I was thinking. I don't think the value will drop much either!

the 991 targa will be magic if they really bring back the old school look.

With all of the lettering on the rear of the 991, I'm not sure how Porsche will be able to fit the red reflector bar seen on the current 4, 4S, Targa 4, Targa 4S & Carrera 4 GTS models (yes, there are a lot of them) and STILL fit this underneath:
I like the idea of the true open-top Targa design, but feeling a little sarcastic about some of the design choices of this car.

Also, we won't see a 4S/Targa/GT3 hit showrooms until 2013 timeframe anyway as the S isn't due to hit until Jan/Feb 2012. If you're going to want anything other than an S, you still have at least 18 months until it's here.
There's a big part of me that really wants to buy out my GTS lease now given the strong interest rates that can be had, but financial prudence is holding me off because of the potential loss of value after 991 launch. BUT, I also plan on my GTS being a keeper, so it makes sense to purchase the car now.

I really like the new 911. The wheelbase is 4 inches longer but overall length is just 2 inches. That means shorter overhangs and better handling and performance. Weight is up only a little....if I remember correctly from what I read. If the extra length means more interior comfort then for the first time, I am really interested in buying a 911.
My father tried to get one for me when I was a kid. I was too big for it.
The 997 was much better but I still felt claustrophobic in it.
The new 991 hopefully airs it out inside. If it does I'll wait one model year then jump on it.
Those of you who think it looks worse than the 997, I'll just wait a while and I'm sure that tune will change.

i guess the 991 c4 and c4s will not get the reflector bar (ever) again.
way to much lettering (agreed) and way too busy for the rear.
and i can`t see how that would nicely fit between those new, thinner taillights. i could be wrong tho. the original targa design is a true winner.
okay, not for all current 997 targa lovers but Porsche offers a solution: save some $$ and take the standard carrera with the big new sunroof
or take the new much cooler 991 retro targa.

Keep your current one or see if you can 'steal' a new lease while getting out of current lease early. Too early to tell how the 991 is going to be welcomed once the initial demand subsides, but I think we all know the 997 has the true 911 character in it and will hold a special place, much like the 993 and 930. Not sure about the 991.

As per your lease, not really sure buying it out will save you much - I think you are committed to all the payments plus interest for leases, no?
