2012 Porsche 911: This is it
#122
I've never been one to hold on to the past, but this is a case that I'm struggling to move on as I just don't like the 991 as much as I thought I might. When I had my 1st 997.2, I was lured away with the updated interior of the Panamera. After a year of the Panamera, I did nothing but lament letting go of my 997, but more because I missed the driving experience that a 911 brings and a Panamera just can't match. I guess my heart doesn't want to let go of another 997 and then wish I never had. The 991 will undoubtedly be faster, & more accomadating, but something in me LOVES the raw feeling that I get in the still rather simple interior of the 997.

it´s just 2 inches larger in reality but the much larger wheelbase together with the lowered roof(line) makes it appear much longer, agreed.
it´s less of the old silhouette in it than ever before but for me that is not a bad thing cause it looks very sleek and dynamic now and will attract new customers. i am pretty sure most of the current customers who didn`t fell in love at first sight will get used to it very quickly, esp. after the first reviews.

You can say it all you want, but when I look at this pic, I see a 991 that looks considerably longer than the 997 it's facing. I can tell from the shadows that the 991 is a little closer to the camera than the 997, so that distorts the size somewhat, but the lower/longer chassis does make this car look much more like a GT than the 997.
And I know I'm in the minority that prefers the shorter, stouter stance of the 997 than the 991. The 991 does't have the short, stout, bullfrog appearance...but rather looks longish like the Panamera.
As I've stated, I'm sure the 991 is a fantastic machine...but it doesn't appear to represent the lineage of the 911 that I grew to love since I first set my eyes on a 930.

Many people have been pointing out that each iteration of the 911 (including the 997 and 993) have been a deviation from the iconic concept of the 911. How much of a deviation has always been the million dollar question.
And c'mon! If you are looking at the shadows of the picture, then you are looking way too hard to spot "flaws." And, shadows can be deceiving due to the angle of the sun.

I totally agree that the design will draw new customers because it is much more sleek. It for sure has a broader appeal.

Just pointing out that I could tell that the 991 was closer to the camera, so it would naturally look bigger than the 997...

I can't wait to see it in person.

While I am not thrilled with the pictures. I guess I will wait to see it in person.
While dropping my car off at the dealer this morning, I saw that they had a Speedster in the show room. Never cared much for them in the pictures. Up close it is something else.

Indeed, though it costs a lot more without adding much performance.

I felt the same way when I saw the Speedster in person. Maybe the 991 will evoke more interest from me when I do see it in person...but I'm very blinded by my love for my GTS. And after driving a PanameraS for a year, I'm not as interested in the new interior as most. It's nice...but it won't sway me to trade in my 997.
