How My Family Survived "IRENE"
Hi All ...
Just Wanted to Share How I survied "IRENE" @ NJ..
My Emergency Sump Pump Battery would Only Last 6 Hrs w/o Power
Good Thing a had an Inverter 400Watt plugable into Cig Lighter
It was Enough to keep Charging the Battery .. And Provide Some Lights
I used my Kids VW GTI the Most .. But I Did use the 911 for about 1hr .. No Issues All Is fine Now .. I was Able to OverNight a 1000W Gen .. My Wife was laughing @ one point that I was using the Most Expensive Generator !! @ Least My Basment was Not Flooded.. Many Of my Nieghbors was not as fortunate

Yeah .. I Had The Engine Hoods Open All The Time .. And I kept An Eye on the Temps (Oil, Engine) .. While running on Idle The Cars never heated up.
Also the Load on the Inverter was kept Low .. The Inverter has a Fuse of 8Amps .. And I know the Cig Lighter has a Fuse of 10Amps So there was a Margin of Safty .. Also I only used the 911 for the Lights .. which were 2 Compact Florecent Bulbs 23 watts each @ 38 MiliAmps .. So the 911 was safe in terms of Electrical Load

I felt your pain! Good Job! I'm down in South NJ and dodged the storm, lots of wind and rain, but luckily no flooding. All I kept thinking about was the gentleman with the 911 from the South East that put his 911 on a inflatable dock and when the flooding got bad he inflated the dock and tied it to his house, do a search, you will see what I'm talking about. I feel bad for all those in North Jersey who are struggling with the flooding.

When I ran out of hope in finding batteries, I found a lonely old inverter at the last rat shack I visited and bought it. I figured it will come in handy... Of course I never (fully) lost power... I did loose power in 1 of the 2 phases in the house, the one that fed the pumps so I flooded anyhow

Should have posted here. I got power back Monday and you could have borrowed my 2000w pure power generator along with the extra gas I have (you could keep the gas :0). Do you have power yet? Offer stands......
