sport exhaust leads to police complaint

sport exhaust leads to police complaint
Not what you're thinking. Someone called the police on me, not because of the level of exhaust noise, but rather because they must have presumed I was speeding based on the exhaust note..? I was in 2nd gear on a small side road and these people with their small children around got very belligerent. I didn't make things any better when I down shifted to first for the stop sign 100 ft. down the road So, sport exhaust and heel toeing = unhappy volvo drivers.
This has happened several times this year, people come out to the roadside looking like humans trying to take flight (hands flapping to gesture you to slow down). One lady even apologized when she realized I wasn't speeding after I came to a stop in @ 20 feet and said "what!?"
I do speed very frequently, but never in a residential neighborhood. Our daughter is 3 and her seat is always in the back of my car (except for DE days).
I spoke to the police captain, but the department will still have this on record for 2 years.
I think I may avoid small streets from now on. I don't want to turn the exhaust off for such a silly reason and I can't slow down any more. I'm already going the speed limit
Drivers beware....

You seem to have some busybody neighbors...so they didn't complain about your car being loud, but thought you were speeding?! And if they're so smart, how come they don't realize that you're actually not speeding??
And the Porsche sport exhaust isn't all that loud to begin with...do they lock their doors when a Harley cruises by?

you can't reason with ignorant people...the same thing happened to me when cruising downhill through a neighborhood in first gear. this woman ran out screaming and flapping her arms signing me to slow down (kind of looked like she was hailing to the p-car lol) and she was completely bewildered when I stopped directly next to her and asked 'what?'. I'm curious how you ended up speaking with the police captain and what exactly is on record??

i wouldn't even bother and i would even check if i could counter-complain.... for their ignorance...
There is no proof that you were speeding and i would say that if we would ever go to court they would look stupid...
...unless there is some type of disclaimer in the Porsche manual that warns about "excessive noise levels" on the sport button and that it is not to be used in residential areas!
Its like when people see me with my Mini Cooper S with the Sport button activated and the exhaust pops all the time like a freakin racecar... Not overly loud but it turns all heads! LOL... It is a factory option that i like to use and apparently has passed EPA, DMV, and every agency under the sun to be used on a street driven vehicle...

It could always be worse.
Heard of a GT-R owner who was harassed by an LEO who parked outside his area, waiting for him to leave, because of a call from a neighbor who hated to hear him start it up each day.

in my old neighborhood I had the same problem..
whenever I'd drive my BMW, people would do the crazy bird dance.. I like the sound of my exhaust so I would always keep the revs high
I love the look of rage on their faces...
either way, a pedestrian reporting you as "speeding", it becomes your word against his unless he has evidence (which chances are, he doesn't). Cops will never take it seriously. When I was 17, me and some friends went to an empty car park at like 2am in an industrial area and dragged ONCE. My cooper S vs his VW Jetta (I ravaged him). Apparently someone called the cops on us, but by the time they got there we were just talking and laughing.
Cop: I heard you kids were racing
me: what?
Cop: we got a call reporting a Mini and a VW racing.
me: that's weird.. there is no one around
Cop: yes well, they reported a disturbance
Me: my friend was having engine trouble, so we were checking out the engine, we must have revved it high, probably sounded like a car racing... we're sorry officer.
Cop: Ok.. have a good night.
no proof, and this came before the days of cell phones with cameras
His word against ours.

I flat out disagree. You shouldn't have to modify your driving to appease others. It's your car and you can drive the way you want to drive it (within the confines of the law of course). Forget about worrying about stereotypes. No matter what, people are going to think what they are going to think. They are a douch for thinking you are a douch without getting to know you. If I were the original poster, I'd rev my engines the next time I see some b*tch trying to tell me how to drive. You are not endangering anyone's life. She should mind her own d*mn business and I'll mind my own. Not to be an a*s, but it is a pet peeve of mine when people stick their nose into your business when it really isn't any of their business. It's annoying.
