Dension 500 Operation Question

Hello,

I just had the Dension 500 installed in my 05 C2S Cab with PCM 2.1. The local dealer/installer had no idea how to operate the system to control my ipod. The owner's manual is worthless. Does anyone know of a user's manual or anything that is specific to Porsche use?

Thanks.

I never found one after I bought a used p-car with a Dension already installed. Check the DIY sticky note (https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...sche-911s.html). One of the installation posts had some videos showing the operation of the interface. That connected a few dots for me.

Actually, manual ipod is so much easier and faster, I'm fine with that. I also installed a wireless system for the Ipod so you don't need any cables in the cabin. You can contact me for more info or just do a "wireless Ipod Dension" forum search. I posted some pics, etc.

Forget the ipod. Just use a (eg 32gig) usb stick: great interface between pcm and dension!

I wish I could help, but I'm in the same boat. Love the unit, PITA to use....

All I want is to be able to get the Dension screen off when plugged in so I can navigate the iPod on my own.

Hey Damon,

I think if you press "6", this will bring up the menu, which will let you choose "ipod UI" for manual ipod control via Ipod. I have my Ipod connected wirelessly to the Dension 500 by using the AudioEngine W2 system, which is awesome. Here is a link for pics I posted here:

Terabyte?

Are you using a jump drive or a USB powered HDD? How is the interface/control different from that of the ipod?

With IPODs being so inexpensive I have a devoted one sitting on top of the Dension unit in the trunk. I use the entire IPOD as a single play list (thousands of tracks) and select 'random'. If I'm not in the mood for a particular track that comes up I just press the '>' on the PCM numeric pad to move on.

Why clutter up the cabin w/ cables & external IPODS?

There are TWO operational modes with a PCM/Nav screen Dension setup.

iPodUI means iPod is in control.
iPodGW means Gateway is in control (visuals on PCM screen).

There are several setup menus offered under the CD6 -> MENU command.

If you bought it from us, we supplied a few files that go into some hefty detail on all of this, making your use of the unit easier and more direct for your needs.

The primary setup for PCM based vehicles is iPod in glove box, data on screen. Nothing cluttering up the cabin, all stock in appearance.

Email me with questions, anytime.
