Buying a 997 C2S, some advice needed !

Guys,
I am shopping for a 997 C2S and found a 2005 "launch edition" model down south. If I can work the right price out, I will pay for a PPI and if all checks out then pay for shipping. Now this car looks in pristine condition, interior and exterior (from the pics) and has only 30K miles. It has all options including the PCCB. Seller will accept $48K as the absolute bottom. Is this a good deal, average or paying too much. Should I rather be looking at a later one? Any good advice is definitely appreciated.

IMHO, a tad high. I think lower 40s is more reasonable.

If I recollect correctly, some of the early launch editions had IMS issues.

As Lacrosse posted, $48K is high, imo it should be in the low 40 range. Also do some reading about IMS issues on 2005 MY cars, and PCCB replacement costs, which you should at least be aware of.

When I bought my 06 from a rennlist member back in April I had looked for a while and had omitted 05s from my search.

If you think $48k is high then wait till you have to replace the PCCB. Unless you are tracking the car I would stay away from a car with PCCB dics.

My 2005 'Launch Car' has been trouble free since it's sale date of August 2004. PCCB pads are not that expensive. The rotors may outlast the car's life. I've got close to 25K miles on mine and both pads & rotors show no signs of wear. If you plan to track the car PCCB's might not be the set up for you.

RMS, IMS . . . . . Hell some of them even have PMS.

With all due respect I think you have it wrong. If you're tracking use steel; much cheaper to replace than carbon.

Why do F1 cars use carbon fiber brakes; money is no object w/ them.

Yeah, $45k or below would be better market price. Where is the car? FL? I have a friend with a 05 C2S Launch Ed since 3 yrs ago without any problems, the PCCBs and wheels looks brand new. IMS upgrade from LN is only a few grand to do when you upgrade or replace your clutch, flywheel or RMS later on. You could most likely drive it for another 20k before you have to worry; depend on how it's driven, of course. If this car didn't work out then look for a late 2006-on for around $52k. GL

yeh I was doing some research and talked to my porsche mechanic and he said to find out if the engine is an M96 or M97. He said the M97 should be RMS free. In terms of price I guess I will probably try to negotiate further or just look for a newer model. I actually dont track my cars this will just be a weekend car. Now is a 997S with about 45K miles considered high mileage? Thanks in advance guys for all the input. I've always been BMW and this is my first Porsche so trying to get it right.

Preface -- I happen to be very fond of the black/black 05 launch car . In my opinion it is the best configured launch 997S of the entire series . In fact I bought one back in August 04 . The only problem I faced was that the theives liked the car too and with xenon light theft in my region at that time being extremely bad I opted to sell the car and took an 18 month break from Porsche .

The priice of 48K is exactly half of what i paid for my car (with the 3K discount i got) . That car is 7 years old !!!!!!!!
There's no way I'd pay it .

Hope that answers your question .

As for miles .. once that car crosses 50K miles the depreciation takes a huge hit .
