997.2 airbag fitting problem
hello guys,
I was trying to install my new steering wheel, but my airbag is not sitting flush, I bought the airbag off of ebay, the dealership can't put it on, is something that maybe we are doing wrong installing the airbag? btw I had the old triangular steering wheel..
thanks

steering wheel
Thanks its a 997.2 steering wheel and airbag, when I put it on the airbag gies all the way in but I have to push it to the front, because the springs are not strong enough
Questions?
What is the purpose of the 2 springs, when you use your horn to push the airbag or just for release when you want to dismount?
The airbag has a 3/8 gap all around is that cosmeticall or is it for horn ? That you press in you can see it in the pictures
I put some masking tape in the holes where the springs hit to make more pressure and now the thing goes back to normal position flush with the steering wheel, what a pain..

aside from all the problems there may be with putting a new wheel on a old car, dont know what car had a triangl air bag.
But the air bag you have there isnt for that wheel , if its too small, and has a gap. it should be a exact fit.

my car a is .2 gen too... the airbag is the correct fit for that steering wheel. problem is when push the airbag stays inside and won't return to normal position sits inside as if you hit the horn.

well, I dont know if it is right if it has a gap. Its not supposed to have a gap.
If it wont clamp down and wont sit out to the edge its a problem with the spring inside or the clips that hold to the spring. If its right bag for right wheel, then you have to figure out how it is supposed to work and figure out what isnt clipping to what.
the spring in the wheel releases the air bag hooks when you push it up from underside; the hole in the leather. if you push up on the spring you see it goes up and unhooks the air bag hooks.

yes the spring for the relseas works fine and the airbag clamps fine, but when you push the airbag for the horn, (inside) it wont come back to sit flush with the steering wheel.. so looks like the two springs inside are not building presure to push the airbag out..
the gap on the airbag I think thats how they all come..doing some reasearch but I think its the steering wheel

they did put the steering wheel on, that was the problem, airbag was staying inside, looks like the springs inside are not strong and the airbag is getting a hard time getting back to normal, when you press the horn its hard too.. the tech didn't know what was going on, I guess not a lot of experience..

Hi all,
I had this same problem and the solution is very simple:
Often times what happens is that the flat airbag cable gets stuck. Look on the right side of the airbag and notice that there is a depression for the flat cable to stay in. What happens is that it gets folded and stays outside of that depression and when you push the wheel it, it jams up.
If you pull the airbag out again, and carefully route it against that depression, it will click in correction. You have to be very careful not to twist the airbag as it goes in. It's not a problem with the springs, it's just installer error.
I'm surprised the tech couldn't figure this out, but that is the solution.

man at first, I was thinking it was the cables, I've been playing all day with the thing.. getting the airbag in and out and I think the cables go in fine, but yeah its very hard for the airbag to slide out.. like it needs some pressure or lube.. at first the tech said that the horn was not working because the bag was stuck inside, did you had the same problem?
