New member; price check
#46
Hate to bring this up... again - but I have to side with Larry on this.
Case in point -
My local dealer has a brand new 2011 C4S Cab with PDK listed on their website at $119K - Oh, and on their 'specials' page it's listed for $15K off MSRP - Hmmm - that puts a brand new C4S Cab (with 8 miles on it) in your garage for $104K (and no it's not green - lol)
Personally I think the extra $15K for a two year newer car with no history and 8K less miles is easily worth it and once again shows the used market (and that car for $89K) is priced too high.

Also agree that $15k for two years depreciation and mileage is not worth it. However, it is very simply the price of admission today. Prices are not going down that much as there is fair demand for the cars.

Very good points.
I think the 2011 is worth the additional money over the 2009 but you are correct that they are both priced high in todays market.

However, I would be careful to note that this is also hardly a bargain. You are buying a one year old leftover. My dealer has 2012s on the lot. So you're getting a 12% discount on a one year old car. Depreciation the first year is very typically closer to 20%. Get a 2012 at $500 over invoice, that's a reasonable deal.

However .. the proportional value tilts in favor of the new car UNLESS these used cars are just inflated in asking price to create a false sense of reality .
The way to know is to write a check for what the used car is really worth .. and tear it up if the used car seller rejects it .
The OP did offer 85K .
There is one thing the buyer gets with a new car though .. it lacks history . Even if it's a leftover .. at least no other driver ever sneezed in it .
At 90K for a mass produced 997 4S Cab .. I think the buyer deserves a car which is free of some previous owner's miles or crud .
