Little to no oil consumption

Hi all,

It's been roughly 4500 miles since I got my C2S and I'm somewhat concerned about my oil consumption... or lack thereof.

I've regularly checked the oil level after filling up for gas and noticed that it has not changed. Could this be a bad sensor or do I just not drive it hard enough?

while we were retuning home from seeing her doc my wise mother said to me in response to a question like yours...."we have enough problems...don't go looking for new ones"...count your blessings and don't worry about it

Mine has varied as well. In the past, I had to add a 1/2 quart every few thousand miles, but lately it seems to not go down at all. Such are the mysteries of 911 ownership I guess...

You're fine. We bought our car at 11,000 miles, changed the oil at 18,000 and again at 25,000. Each time it was down one of the thick bars on the display. Only two instances of course, but the pattern seems to be that it drops one bar within a few thousand of the change and then stays the same reading until the next change. That's where it was last weekend at 28,600 miles.

On the other hand, I used a track day to do tire tests this week. And purely in the interest of scientific inquiry I had to run the final open session "at speed." You know. Briskly, let's say.

I noticed (when the "you have no more miles to play" message appeared) that a 3.8L engine operated at full power between 5000 and 7000 rpm for half an hour sucks down an amazing amount of fuel. When I checked the oil level while filling up the gas, I noticed it also 'burned' a whole 0.4 liters of Mobil 1 that day.

It's the first half quart of oil I've consumed in this car with malice aforethought. We're both okay. I figure that's a small price for all the fun... uh, scientific data gathered Monday afternoon.

Mine only started consuming pretty heavily at around 10k miles on the odo, which the dealer said is very common. When I did my last oil change (with Redline 5W40), it didn't consume any oil (on the meter at least) for about 5k miles, then started to consume again, but more slowly than with the Mobil 0W40.

I'm with Chuck -- better things to worry about! So
